I'm putting myself on blast here, but I just came across this video from when I had my boy (he was sadly PTS last year) and it's so hilarious I just had to share! This is what happens when you try and long rein an 18.3hh'er in a deep school and you're not so talented at running... I miss his trot, it was beautiful to ride! I miss him everyday.

Supportive friends were howling in the background as you can hear...

He's not even really trying is he ?

He really wasn't, he was incredible when he got going!

That’s too funny ? he coulda dragged you off your feet but didnt , he looks like he woulda been lovely to ride ❤️

Oh he was a kind chap, that's why I was trying so hard to run as I really didn't want to jab him in the mouth with the long reins ?

Talking of 18.3 horses. My sister was talking to retired vet friends of hers yesterday. They are involved with the Inland Waterways and were asked to clear a stretch of towpath for a horse drawn narrowboat, something to do with the Commonwealth Games, not sure if it was part of the baton relay but irrelevant. They duly did this expecting something about 14.2. Turned out to be an 18.3 Shire. Good job there were no bridges. Anyway the boat wasn't one designed to be towed by a horse so they tied the rope to railings on the prow and ran the motor so all the horse had to do was keep the line looking tight. What a farce.

So funny ?
A guy I know used to long rein horses everywhere, including over courses of jumps. I couldn’t look at the horse, too busy watching him sprinting round leaping over fences. It was hilarious.
Tried this myself exactly once with a tiny cross pole.

Got a big mouthful of sand and I am positive the pony was embarrassed for me. Luckily no cameras around!!

This reminds me of a duck on water.....your horse is the elegant 'look at me aren't I beautiful part above water' and you are the 'legs paddling like crazy under the water' ?

I just choked on my coffee!! You are so right! ??

My god, he is much braver than I! I used to long rein him for hours over the Downs, I started when Covid hit and they were advising people not to ride but jumping would have been suicidal!
