Never underestimate your horses sense....
I own a forward going but perfectly safe Irish Cob, for a 6yr old she is extremely level headed and confident.
I keep my girl on my friends private yard, she doesn't live onsite but has 2 amazing guard dogs, both mastiffs. Great with the horses and fab at keeping unwanted people out...
Sadly, Tyson, who was 9, had to be pts yesterday afternoon at the yard, he had been poorly for a few weeks and had lost weight in the last 7 days as he wasn't eating, the vet said he had a heart problem and couldn't rule out heart attacks, he was a good old age for a dog of his size, he weighed in at 15 stone. Tyson was buried at the yard yesterday afternoon, next to his father who was pts a couple of years ago.
Now... my level headed, confident mare is having some issues with Tysons passing. She didn't see him pts and was far to busy munching on hay when he was buried. Today when I got her into the school she completely freaked out, snorting, stamping her feet, rearing, bucking, spinning around, you name it, she did it... She couldn't take her eyes of the spot where Tyson was buried, which is about 30-40 feet away from the school. The ground was leveled back out yesterday, so to the eye you really wouldn't know anything had happened there yesterday. But my girl knows something isn't right. It took 20 minutes to settle her down and stop the snorting, stamping, rearing and bucking...
I will never underestimate a horses sense ever again...
RIP Tyson... you're missed so much
