Just wondering if anyone has heard of it/what people think of it? And I understand this could start a lot of debates and such... please try to keep an open mind?

A friend sent me this link a while back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHaEzGz0HeE It seems amazing, the bond between him and the horses is phenomenal...

Have been reading through the website ( http://hauteecole.ru/en/ ) for a while and I don't know, there's a lot of it that seems brilliant, it does make sense. But then, I also can't see me giving up competing and jumping for good... Either way, it's made me do some thinking and I suppose that's something?

Just curious, could anyone out there see themselves giving up bridles and competitions for THAT kind of relationship with their horse

That kind of relationship is not predicated on abandonning the bridle (I note he uses both a saddle and whip at times).

I am not sure what the training method is saying (OK to be fair it's a really short video!);

- is this about not using a bridle? Well, I am not sure there is anything wrong with a bit and bridle as such, as long as they are used properly. But any training method and aid can go wrong in the wrong hands. The guy in the video is using a stick as an aid, but that can also be abused and used to cause pain.

- is this about only using positive reinforcement? Well, if it is good for him, but it's hardly unique.

- is it about doing things other than the 'standard' competition moves? A lot of people train their horses to do 'unusual' stuff, including circus and display team horses, stunt horses, a guide-horse for the blind, etc.

Some people do have an exceptional ability to relate to their horses, but I think they include top competitors as much as they include this chap and others like him (BTW I find the French guy who works four horses at liberty with no bridles/saddles in the middle of a huge beach a more impressive example of this kind of thing).

I think really you have to have a read through some of the website before reaching any conclusions :/ Or maybe it's just me thing finds it at all intriguing?

You mean Jean-Francois Pignon? I don't think there's anyone that could disagree that what he manages is amazing.

Yes, that's the guy! He is pretty fantastic, isn't he?! I saw him at Olympia years ago and he was as amazing live.

I had a little read of the website but I was having uncharitable thoughts, so decided not to post anything else!
