Hello Everyone

I currently tow a Ifor Williams HB505 with a Jeep Grand Cherokee 3L CRD.

I'm commuting 50 miles a day and need a car for motorway commute and some off road driving.

I'm looking to change the Jeep for a smaller 4x4 which can tow the Ifor Williams HB505 and still be ecomonical on motorway. I am also looking at swapping trailer for HB403 as have one 16.1 hunter.

The problem I have is that i love my Jeep!!! But the fuel efficiency is terrible. So I have looked at either keeping the Jeep and running a smaller car, or looking at smaller 4x4. I'm favouring the Freelander 2 Dynamic or Audi A6 all road, but they are expensive.

Does anyone have a good towing combination they can recommend?

I have a jeep grand Cherokee too and totally adore it, towing really is a piece of cake.

I have mine running on lpg but if yours is a diesel then you are probably getting more miles to the gallon than I do in my 3l petrol anyway (which is about 12 to 14 mpg)

I only tow a single trailer (bockmann comfort uno which is very cool) but still love having the pulling power of something that can tow 3.5 t. Thankfully I don't have to use mine as a daily driver otherwise i might well be bankrupt.

Husband would like me to change to a newer car though and is looking at things like the vw touran or the Subaru Forrester, both have over 2t capacity (think the touran is 2.5t) but I'm not impressed if I'm honest, I prefer proper 4x4s but running costs are stacking up and it costs a fortune for me to go to a show as I have to use so much fuel.

I assume you have a B+E licence looking at the set up you have been using

Lots use the nissan xtrail with single trailers without any issues especially for B licence towing so for B+E towing there will be no probs

lol!!

If there is an option to keep the jeep and get a wee eco car for the motorway miles, that would be my choice, but only as I love my jeep so much!

I had an nissan xtrail 2.2 diesel with 505 ifor trailer, and it was a great towing machine, only every towed one horse or two ponies, but it managed just fine and not too bad on fuel. just changed it for a pathfinder and got to say loving the tow power of the bigger vehicle, but xtrail did the job just fine and way less car tax each year!
