I have a new dog today he is 3 years old and appears to be totally un house trained, so far he has done 4 wee,s and a poo in the house lol. He is a tiny JRT and has a sweet temprement but is quite frightened of children but non aggressive, good around his feed bowls thankfully. He is starting to look forward to the lead while I walk him around the garden for his 1 hourly wee breaks, I am praising him when he goes to the toilet so hopefully will start to understand this is where he does his buisness.
I have waited quite a while before getting another dog after having my yorkie PTS due to cushings, I was going to get a puppy but my friend really needed a home for this dog so thought I would give him a chance. He as always lived outside in a run, any ideas you guys can come up with to help him adjust to indoor life would be a great help.

Thanks in advance

The above and lots of patience. We've had a couple we've taken on, both were 2 when we had them (separate occasions though) and they'd been kenneled out, never house trained. They got there in the end though

He is luckily crate trained when he was a pup and when I asked him to go in it he jumped straight in, I put him in when I needed to bring in the shopping and did not want him going out of the house while the gates were open. When I got back in the house he was fast asleep in there, he is fast asleep again now in his basket in the lounge after having a run around in the garden.

:D well done for taking him on. sounds like you are on the right lines..why not put his basket inside the crate so that is his normal sleeping place... then you can just shut the door when needed so he is in his normal bed place when you need to leave him. PICCIES please, its the law!!!!!!

He has a bed in the crate as well lol, and we are up to 8 wee,s and counting in the house and that is with going out everytime he looks at the door with that "I may need a wee look" :D
He was very thirsty when he arrived here so he had as much water as he needed, he has now settled down and has ignored the water bowl for a few hours (thankgod). Here a a couple of really poor piccies which I took while he was chewing a rawhide bone, sorry he will not pose for piccies so a bit hit and miss
