Seriously.. some small key chains.. key rings.. and one of those things for fishing lines (no idea what they are called but they break under certain weights)

They aren't even bothering to try not to make this stuff look like tat these days...

That has got to be the weirdest (and most rubbish) training 'device' I've ever seen - anyone seen anything else like this ?

What is the point of it? What are they saying it does?

As far as I can see it is just linking the rein to the bit, so why not just put your rein on the bit. I wouldn't trust the strength of those chains or loops.

Evidently, for $48.00 Zack! (the exclamation mark is important it seems) 'Rein Sensors' Training tool will help you to find out and work towards an even, soft and elastic rein hand.

Here is the website link - sorry forgot it in the OP!

Zack! Rein Sensors

Perhaps 'Zack!' is the noise that the little plastic thingies make when they break and your horse bogs off into the sunset and the chain takes up the slack ?

Ew.

I might be wrong, is it to make you keep your hands light? If you don't the plastic snaps, then obviously the chain is there so you aren't left with no reins attatched to the bit? Would be much more hilarious without the chain, riders cantering around with no reins, they'd damn well learn to have light hands quicker too!

Actually I think its quite a good idea if just a little naff in its design.
I'd love to see how many people would break the 2kg weak links when hanging off their horses mouths over a fence.
It would certainly highlight just how soft or roughly you are riding.

agreed actually. They're not really a gadget like draw reins, more of a training tool for the rider to learn not to hang on mouths, rather than a quick fix to make your horse look "pretty"

Arent these just a different way of presenting the elastic bunge reins you can already get? Im not sure I would want that rattling round near my horses mouth!

For instance:

No, unless I misunderstand these, they are more like normal reins in that the contact through them is fixed (unlike elastic reins which obviously stretch with the contact), the point is that the weight sensitive section of these will snap if you exceed a pre-determined force on the reins. The point isn't to allow for the rider's rubbish hands by having reins which are soft, but to teach the rider to have soft hands (because if they don't, they'll break the reins).

or what paddymonty said :o crossed posts.

I think it looks really cheap, especially the key ring type metal loops. If your horse had a sudden hooley and the plastic things snapped, the rings would just expand open and then you would have no reins (eek!)

I can think of quite a few people I would like to ride in them  I think they are actually quite a good idea, would certanlty make some people more conscious of their hands and that cant be a bad thing.

thats what i was thinking, all very well if the chain acts as security, but those rings dont look as strong as the chain, so surely you would have NO reins if the horse peed off with you???

I wouldn't mind a set myself :o might make my neckstrap grabbing more accurate

Your conscious of it though and try not to remove his teeth, there are a few people I know who dont think any thing of taking teeth out on a regular basis and its those that I was thinking about .
