As above has anyone had the new alternative drug ( Osphos- only came out end of September) to Tildren used on their horse? If so how did they find it? My ponys now been on a high dose of preds ( above 1mg per kg ) and at the minute theyve had no effect at all and the vets will probably double the dose tomorrow when they re-ex him. We are running out of options and they thought they might try this new drug on him ( if we can get it in him- his behaviour doesnt make him overly safe to handle much ) as a last resort as there isnt any documentation anywhere at all about the injury and associated structures he has.

What's the background first? Quick summary?

Pony had a fall 10wks ago and put his foot in a hole. After a ct scan due to big behavioural and personality changes and flinging his head round in a figure of 8 starting with his head down it turns out hes fractured the back of his skull right where the important nerves enter through his skull into his brain stem. Where the bone is damaged the new bone is interfering with these structures. He had also had a bleed around the area ( we knew hed had a bleed as his bloodsnshowed he was anaemic ). Hes got the very best in the country caring for him but this type of injury has never been seen before.

Right, ok - not the answer I was expecting. Sounds horrendous. Sorry, I have no advice but I hope someone is along soon with some and I wish you and your poor boy the very best of luck.

Sorry, I can't help either Flaxen. I read your other posts and had been hoping that your pony would have been slowly improving with time, but it doesn't sound as if that is the case. I seem to recall your guy is being treated by Rainbow and all I can say is keep the faith, they are pretty awesome there. Wishing you the very best with him.
