Hi
I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for some help.
My daughter who is 7 is entered into her first x pole competition with her pony. We have been working hard to get to this point and I was wondering can someone give me their view on what happens on the day?
Does she enter the arena herself!
Can I be in the arena with her?
Does she do 1 round or 2?
How many jumps are normally on a x pole course?
And what height are the x poles?
Thank you so much ?

It will depend on each venue and the way they run things.

Most of the venues near me allow lead rein kids in the cross pole rounds, but not all do.

Otherwise parents tend to stand at the gate.

It's normally one round.

Height can vary significantly, but again based on my local venues I'd estimate the height at 30-40cm max. Little tiny jumps. On the first couple of holes on the wings.

Good luck!

Thank you so much.. She's off the lead rein so I guess I stand at the gate and hope for the best ??

If possible, go through the proceedure at home. Set up a few x poles, show your daughter the course, maybe stand in the arena for the couple of rounds then retreat to the edge. Make sure your daughter rides a little more strongly if she has to pass you at the gate! Be reassuring, don't worry.

Don't be afraid to explain to the organisers that it is her first one if she needs extra help or reassurance from you. I am sure it will be great fun and well done.

This. Speak to the organisers or ring steward. I imagine you are at a local event, they will want to encourage your daughter and remembering to ride and which jump comes next is a big ask for a small child alone in a ring.

......and very importantly, make sure she has fun!

Whilst you may be stressed to the ends of the earth watching, try to keep smiling! :)

Do let us all know how your daughter gets on.

Our local EC allows parents to run alongside pointing out the course even if the child is off lead. Remembering where to go is often the biggest challenge for little ones. Clear round cross poles and the tinies class are usually run that way. Don't be surprised to see huge horses in the cross pole class as a lot of nervous adults or those with very baby horses use them for training. If the EC is good though there will be rosettes for all the ponies and class placing rosettes will be divided horse/pony
