He’s lovely. I think he was on nfed? Thought then he looked really nice.

No, don't think so. He is from a dealer in Gloucestershire. She had only had him a few days when she put out the initial ' look who is in for assessment ' so I saw him before he was officially advertised.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had minimal handling before being backed. He hasn't got a clue what humans are for, and gives me quizzical looks when I brush him. He has no idea about being hand fed treats - which I'm pleased with, as it's not really something I do so don't have to worry about a spoiled, nippy horse.
He leads well enough, but is very slow and can be hesitant, like he his thinking everything through. So far very quiet in the field and leaves a good distance between himself and the fencing.
So will be taking at very slowly, which is fine as I have all winter to get him up and running if needs be.

In the first picture I think he looks like a baby Shire. Not sure why I'm going Shire over Clydie, maybe the head carriage? Or maybe because I knew someone who bred Shires and he reminds me of them. Must have something that carries the creme gene, so I'm going along with the Connie blood too

Well it's been a day of firsts for Winston.

First farrier visit - for some reason he came with a full set of shoes. However it looks like they had been on there a good three months. To be fair, they were still pretty secure, but obviously his feet were very overgrown. Hes fairly good at lifting his front feet, but backs can be a bit hit and miss. Farrier was sooooo good with him, took the time to say hello and was calm and quiet throughout. Kept his feet low, to keep it easy. Managed to get shoes of and quick basic trim all round. Well done Winston!

First saddler visit - tried a couple of different options, and have managed to get my old horses saddle to fit for now. Win! He was wary throughout but stood like a rock.

First experience of poo picking - seeing as on Saturday he walked away from me when I tried to catch him, and was wary of me grabbing the head collar, today he came trotting over to say hello! Slowly approached the barrow, gave it a good sniff, then spent the whole time following me around

I've got to admit, that did cross my mind when I saw him. And turns out very helpful, as he does like to lie in his poop!

Little word of warning about height, my lad was 15.3 when I got him as a so called rising 4 yr old. He was actually only rising 3 according to his teeth - and ended up 17.2! Never knew who/what his dad was but he was out of a Clydesdale mare.

Well we had our first little ride yesterday. He was great.
He's a little wary of the whole mounting block business so had a friend hold him, just incase. But he didn't move a muscle.
Walked around and had a little trot. Very wobbly, as expected, with minimal steering, but did nothing wrong. Going to take a while to get used to his huge stride and movement.
Hoping to head out for a very short hack over the weekend but it will depend on availability of a suitable nanny horse.
