So I am doing Norton Disney BE tomorrow and suddenly remember that is need to check my hat meets the new 2016 standards. I've looking online and it says hats which are made solely to BSEN1384 wont be permitted. But what other marking will make my hat acceptable? My hate is a HS1 gatehouse and on the inside it has E2001 written down the middle, saying that is approved to British standards with the heart symbol. It also has written BSEN1384 2012. Does anyone know if this is ok?

I'm 99% certain the BRC rules are the same and their document is very clear with pictures of the acceptable marks.
I can't link to the actual document as it's a downloadable PDF but go to this page: http://www.bhs.org.uk/enjoy-riding/british-riding-clubs/brc-downloads and click on "2016 Hat Guidelines - How Does it affect me" about half way down the page.

ETA - apparently there have been problems with the SNELL labels falling out of Gatehouse hats. If you contact them they will advise you on how to get a new one.

I have a gatehouse HS1 too and was recently told by a very nice lady in local tack shop to be careful of the SNELL label rubbing on the inside. In hats prior to 2014 the SNELL label is in the centre of the hat so when on head text rubs off. I checked my hat and was a victim of this, the SNELL label was completely worn so when produced for inspection at BE or BRC events the secretaries can and will refuse the hat as safe because the label cannot be read (Bit OTT in my opinion but hey ho) If you’re like me and have a worn label email Gatehouse with a picture of the inside of your hat and then a close up of the worn label and gatehouse happily send you out a new label.- They were excellent when doing mine, couldn't be more helpful! New label arrive same week. The new label is then stuck on the side of the hat under the padding where it can’t be rubbed off. If you like / need to (I dont know how to do it on posting here) I can msg you the info from Gatehouse in how to get new label.

BSEN1384 isn't sufficient on its own.

The following are ok on their own, or alongside the BSEN1384..

PAS 015 (1998 or 2011) and BSI Kitemark
ASTM F1163 (2004a or 04a onwards) and SEI mark
VG1 01.040 (2014-12) and BSI Kitemark
SNELL E2001 and official SNELL label (it's red from memory)

HS1's are fine under new rules as they also have SNELL2001, if your red sticker is rubbing off or becoming feint Gatehouse have said they will send you a new sticker to put under the lining flap at the side

If it there is any doubt we are told not to tag them. That means if the label can't be read it won't be tagged. As one who has done hat tagging I have to say there are some really disgustingly dirty hats out there - delving around to find a label in some of them is a safety hazard :) if the label is dirty and can't be read that won't be tagged either.
