Interesting new leagues from BE using Equiratings stats and dishing out decent prize money - https://news.britisheventing.com/a-...with-british-eventings-new-grassroot-leagues/

Clearly aimed at keeping grassroots members interested (which is a good thing) and also with a specific newcomers league for those joining/restarting.

There's also more general stats availability in a stats centre (https://bestats.equiratings.com/dashboard) which doesn't seem to be searchable by horse/rider - but perhaps a future update?? My horse is happily sitting at number 65 in the overall OBP list with an 82.5% beaten percentage after 4 runs, which is pretty neat!

No doubt there will be the usual complaints about it not having a league for intermediate riders with only 1 horse or novice riders who have done exactly 5 seasons... but maybe there will be more to come in the future?

So it's not how often you win, it's how many others you beat on average? So no advantage to winning small classes, and no adavantage to having a larger number of runs?
I think it's a clever idea :)

Oliver Townend is top of everything - lowest and highest. You can do lots of things with stats, love it!

I think it's great that BE are listening to feedback and giving Grassroot riders something more to aim for. Agree that I love the stats centre and really gives people something to aim for and visibility of where they're at. Slightly intimidated by the riders who have 97% OBP over 3ish runs!!

With the new leagues, is it possible to do one run and win it and then you could potentially win the league if you don't do anymore runs?

It's amazing seeing the number of runs that pro riders have already managed to do.

Nit picking - I'm not sure their stats are quite right for the horse with the most number of runs though as to me it looks like they've combined two horses with the same name, one of which ran 7 times and one of which has run 4 but only completed 3?

I think you need to have a minimum of three runs to show up in the leagues. So you can't win on 1 run. But in the newcomers league it looks like two people have had 3 runs and 3 wins - so the only way they can be beaten (assuming they don't run again and don't win) would be by someone winning 3 times but beating MORE opponents in the process. So winning a small class is a lot less beneficial than winning a big section.

Interesting on your nit picking point - i thought that theoretically you COULDN'T have two horses registered with an identical same name - so probably a registration error in the first place that has led to that happening. I'm sure they'll iron out the little faults though.

Ah that makes sense to make it that you have to run a minimum of three times and then the possibility of still being trumped by someone who have beaten more opponents. It will be interesting to see how the leagues get on. I hope they're not all won by someone who has only run three times.

Yes, I'd wondered the same about it possibly being an error with registration.

It would be so interesting to be able to do a soundness study on the horses and see if there are any themes to the horses that have done the most runs at the end of season such as bloodlines, height, type, routine and care etc.

I know the horse with the most ever runs, Think Tank Think is a TB ex racehorse who is just easy and sound. Shattering the perception of the fragile ex racehorse!

That's really interesting. Some of those thoroughbreds are as tough as old boots.
