New boots collapsing too much

I bought a new pair of the Tredstep Donatello SQ from Badminton in May, I had them properly fitted by the stand and was very happy with my purchase as i've had Donatello's before and they were brilliant. I've probably only worn them about 10 times as i just use them for best but the last few times i have ridden in them they have stretched so much they are almost creasing so much that i am stood on the creases inside the boot. I literally just wear them to compete in, and dont walk around in them and take them off as soon as i get off the horse as they are so awful to walk in after because they've collapsed so much, that you end up stood on creases of leather! They aren't bad when i put them on, look smart and dont look to have collapsed atall (still have to put heel risers in them) but once i get off they are really really crumpled around the ankles

Do i have any comeback with the company atall? if a zip had gone i know i'd have some recourse, but not sure where i stand with the leather becoming too saggy?

i know I'm gutted FW - My last donatellos were so lush, unfortunately my legs are now too fat for them! Do i need to take it up with the stand we bought them from or with Tredstep Direct?

I think you'll need to start with the stand. The rep is who fitted me for mine so if I get any problems I will be taking it up with both her and the stand! Must say the leather is quite thin and soft so that could be the reason. Were you other ones thicker leather?

There was another user a month or so ago who had problems with tredstep items and it took a while to resolve, sure if you do a search you'll find the post. I believe that was to do with the zips going, but similarly after very little use. She had to go through the retailer initially, so I think your starting point would be the stand/company you bought them off.
I also have the same boots and thought they seemed quite delicate- as they get worn about 3 times a year I'm hoping they'll last!

Did you keep them on boot trees? Boots often collapse if not kept on proper trees between uses.

Your first recourse would be the seller under the sale of goods act (although in fairness they will probably have to go to the manufacturer.) But you may also have a claim through your credit card company under the Consumer Credit Act (if you paid by credit card...)

Ariat who have very good customer service, won't guarantee their boots if you don't use trees, hope you've had them on trees! Don't know what tredsteps policy is but suspect that could be a get out.

I haven't used boot trees (none came with the boots as they used too) however they have been kept upright in a boot bag since purchase.

I'll contact the stand we bought from and then go down the credit card route if need be

If you haven't used boot trees then they will collapse at the ankle. Any decent boot will. I'm afraid I doubt you'll get any recourse. It isn't a manufacturing fault but an aftercare problem. You can buy decent boot trees pretty much anywhere these days. Far better than the nasty cheap trees some boots come with. An expensive lesson I'm afraid OP.

Think that's the reason then. Standing upright with no trees is worse than lying down I would say. Dunelm mill sell trees for about 3 quid. I used the plastic that came with them until I got some more.

I would have thought the people selling the boots should make you aware of this? there was no care instructions with the boots and nothing was said at the time. I've never used boot trees before as i found the ones that came with some previous ariats stretched them too much, of course i accept some responsibility for not using them but surely if the fact of not using them renders them useless within month or too, it should be made apparent at the point of sale?

I maybe didn't explain it too well, but the boots fit perfectly fine when you put them on, as soon as they warm up they become so baggy. This to me is an issue with the quality of the material used rather than lack of care

I have Donatellos, I've worn them a fair bit now, including for a clinic where they were on for hours both days, for in hand and ridden work and I've not had any bother with them collapsing. Mine are really quite tight still round the calves (takes me a good 15/20mins to get them fully done up with the tops buttoned) so maybe that's the difference?

How was the fit when you first got them?

My boots were v snug (made my legs tingle!) when I first got them and I had to wear them in for a while round the house before I could ride in them.

Sounds to me more like they were a smidge too big when you first got them, rather than a fault with the material. Boots only tend to drop when you're riding in them if they are too loose. You could take them to a cobbler and get them adjusted?

My last Donatellos (black ones) were fitted far too tight whilst breaking them in they made a complete meson my legs/ knees and ankles so much so that i still have the scars! these new ones are the SQ and brown and the leather is quite a lot thinner than the last pair but were almost immediately comfortable and i rode in them straight away with no issues at all. I don't know if they were fitted too tight and i've certainly not lost any weight since buying them but surely the fitters should know how to fit them?
