Firstly I'd just like to say what a fab forum this is... I've been meaning to post this thread for at least a week but every time I come on here there are so many interesting posts that I forget why I visited in the first place!*:)

Anyway, back on subject...*

I am looking to find some boots that are suitable for yard work (warm, waterproof, comfortable etc etc) but are also suitable for riding in. I don't mind long boots, but don't want something that is too bulky as I'm used to riding in short boots & chaps.*

At the moment I am having to do most of my jobs in wellies (which are not warm, even with thermal socks!) and then change into my jodhpur boots & chaps.. Or I wear my jodhpur boots all the time, and they're getting completely ruined thanks to the boggy mud in the paddocks.*

I don't have a huge budget, and I'm not entirely sure what I have in mind even exists...

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!*

Thanks x

(ps.. I'm aware there are probably hundreds of threads like this, so apologies for the repetition)

The warmest, most comfy that I've found are Just Toggs Mudruckers, they do a welly type and riding boot and they are lovely and warm. Only just bought them though, so I'm not sure how hardwearing they are as my Muckboots, which are the same thing didn't last long at all!

For hardwearing boots I like Ariat Mudbusters.

Another option is to get some neoprene socks to keep your feet cosy.

Welcome to the forum by the way!:)

I have the dublin pinnacle boots, google them. They are about £150. Brown leather, long boots. They are too warm to wear on milder days!

They are really comfy and fab to ride in. I wouldn;t want to be getting into too much mud with them, but am happy to muck out etc. This is becuase I don;t want to ruin them!

Not sure if these are within budget or not?

I also have muck boots, the riding version, can;t remember what they are called. Also long, black and rubber/neoprene. Slightly bulkier than I would like but better for muddiness. And cheaper at about £60

Re the post above, I haven;t had my muckboots that long. I got them last winter but they haven;t seen a lot of wear. My friends all had them and had had pairs for years but apparently recently there has been a bit of a manufacturing issue. If they break or leak though they will replace them.

I had a similar problem and at Badminton this year I bought a pair of Dublin Riverboots, they are brilliant warm, breathable, and waterproof. I wear them around the yard, field, for ridding and I even go beating in them, I never get wet feet and they are alway toastie warm, I think they normally cost around £100, which I know sound a lot but isn't really when you think about how much time you will b espending wearing them. I would not now be with out them and it's nearly christmas, maybe get someone to buy them as an early present!! well worth it.

Forgot to mention I have been wearing them everyday since badminton, and my feet have never got to hot or to cold as they have a wicking fabric inside which means that even on really hot days your feet stay at the right temp.

I have Ariat Grasmeres, and Toggi Calgary boots-I've had my Grasmeres for about 3/4 yrs and they are lovely and warm and v comfortable. The only downside is the price, but they do last a long time.

The Toggi Calgary's are waterproof, and nice and fitted for riding in and good for round the yard too, they did need wearing in though as rubbed my feet at first, but I do like them.

I also have just ordered a pair of Ariat Windermeres as well in case the weather gets bad!, - when I tried some on in the shop the other week they seemed v comfortable and a good price as well.
