New bridle advice

I have decided that it is time to invest in a new bridle. At the moment i have a kincade flash bridle x full size but it getting rather shabby. I have a lovely john whitaker bridle that came with horse in full size but unfortunately the noseband will not fit. After searching for a bigger noseband to match the jw bridle i have decided to invest in a new bridle for the show season.

However i am stuck as to what to get. My horse is a chestnut with a big white blaze and i am unsure whether to stick to black or get a dark brown.

Also i have no idea what noseband would look best, a plain cavesson (do not need a flash) or a flat hunter style. Horse is lightweight cob/ small hunter type and we mainly do prelim dressage, riding club horse classes etc.

Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks for reading x
 
I would avoid JW bridles as ours came apart very quickly and there is no quality to them. Much will depend on what type your horse is but if he is tending towards middleweight as you suggest then a slightly broader noseband would be correct. I wouldn't go too broad though as it would not look entirely inkeeping for your dressage. I would go for brown if you plan to show, even at local level.
 
I've yet to hear anyone give a positive rssponse to a JW bridle..... there always seems to be issues over quality & also the fit.

I bought a couple of bridles a few months before Christmas for my horses. They have had Stubben for years but I decided that I would just look around & see what quality bridles I could get at reasonable money. I ended up with a Sue Carson & an Otto Schumacher. Boths are quality bridles, fit really well & I got them at vastly reduced prices. If you kee-p your options open you can get quality at very little money.

A flat noseband and browband will suit your horse's type and will be correct for the classes you want to enter. Cobs usually suit a wider noseband.
I would match the colour to your saddle.
Fylde do very nice bridle work on a par with Jefferies, and you can buy the bridle and noseband seperately if you wish. Star's next bridle will probably come from Fylde Saddlery

Jefferies is nice as well, though more expensive than Fylde.
On a personal note, I found Sabre to look 'shabby and dull after a couple of years, and the Jefferies looks lovely even though it's seven years old.
