rule changes came from the BSJA Jersey newsletter this week. But they must be BSJA England rule changes as the local Jersey BSJA rules only has about 15 rules and is otherwise governed by the UK rule book.
as for when come into effect normally they comoe in from 1st April.
I can only get the last picture up, that looks just about legal.
It is very easy, I ride leg long the majority of the time and i never hit a horse anywhere else.
You shouldn't really need to hit your horse more than 3 times anyway.
I rarely use my whip tbh, only to give a tap on the shoulder on approach if needed, and one sharp smack for a refusal (unless it's my fault), and if you had 2 refusals you would be eliminated so you shouldn't continue hitting your horse.
If you ever see someone beating their horse at a show report them. I know of one preson who was banned for mistreating their horse and another who was spoken to and they then cleaned their act up. It will be taken seriously and acted on.
i have just gone to a judges confrance and the h/c rule has been miss printed, it is still the same as it has always been, if you jump h/c you cant take that horse in the next class competitvly, and the whip rule, we were told as judges to use your comon sence, that should be fun for some judges as they havent got any.

ah thats interesting so basically you can jump straight after a competitive round HC but thereafter you must stay HC? hmmmm jersey BSJA needs to be informed in that case!! LOL
I fully support the whip rule to be honest. I agree with CotswoldSJ - A horse who needs smacking all the way round the course obviously isnt ready to be there! I did think the rule was no more than 3 times in ONE go (ie. one whip after the other).
You'd think that if there were a major change to the whip rule there would be something on the BSJA website. I can't find anything so I'm a bit sceptical about all this.
Personally, I think any rule limiting the rider to three strokes of the whip per round would be far too prescriptive. The current system works perfectly well, where the discretion of the stewards is used to decide if the rider's whip use is appropriate, with a summon to the box following for a "talking too" in any cases of excessive use. I've ridden plenty of horses that have misbehaved and needed to be disciplined during a round, sometimes more than once, and I would not like to have felt constrained by a rule limiting the total number of hits to three.
Having said that, I guess I could accept a rule saying no more than three hard whacks for EACH disobedience, as they have in the USA.
As far as hitting on the rump is concerned, I normally use the whip immediately behind the leg following a refusal, essentially as a punishment for ignoring the leg aid, so I would not like to be told I have to use it on the rump, nor for that matter that I cannot raise my hand above my shoulder.
