My current clippers (Wolseley harriers) have finally died,I’ve loved these clippers for the last 16 years but the last few years they’ve had issues. I’ve had them repaired the last few years but it’s getting expensive at £100 a time. I’m looking to upgrade. I quite like the liveryman phoenix or the black beauty clippers. Does anyone have any recommendations ?

If its mains you're after, my Lister Stars are still going strong after 15 years & not missed a beat. They were used on my fluffy Section D & flew through it.
I've just bought a new cordless/battery pair as now have my horse somewhere with now power, I went for the Heiniger Saphir.

Masterclip roamers are very good. Cordless and the battery last ages
I had these clippers as my back up pair. I clipped a cushings coat with them for an owner and thought they were great. When the pony was PTS i bought them from the owner but i never got on with them after that and sold them last year.

Thank you i'll look into them

Phoenix are a good clipper that should get through most coats but quite long in the body (only an issue if you don’t have something smaller to do fiddly bits with) and the battery pack obviously makes them heavier to hold. I think the balance on them is better than the HD roamer (which I also have played with and not liked) and think they’re a bit lighter.

Not personally used the black beauty but a friend has and rates them. Obviously they’re 2 speed so good for nervous horses and they’ve got the separate battery pack so they’ll be lighter to hold (but you will have the cord from the battery pack to deal with). When I looked they were considerably more expensive for the battery pack version which is why I went with phoenix.

if I was going to replace my lister liberties I'd defo be looking at the liveryman phoenix

I have the liveryman harmony and while you can do a full clip with them they're really not the best! I use them mainly as a trimmer now! they were good to introduce my young horse to clippers but it would take twice as long to do a full clip with them and the battery would run out too! Mine came with a spare battery pack but it never actually worked.

My 50 year old Listers are still going strong. Just hunter clipped my mare twice last year with them and hopefully good for next year.

I love my Liveryman Phoenix clippers. They are long but lightweight and easy to hold. They get through a hairy cobby coat with ease. I use Wahl KMC+ for the tricky leg bits because my horse is sensitive and tricky when it comes to doing his heels

I like the roamers but they are a ‘proper’ clipper. I’d have gone for lighter weight and quieter had I realised how good trimmers are getting now! (I only do 3-4 horses a winter).

do you have the mains or battery one or do you use them as both ?

You can use them as both, I use them on the mains as I haven’t bought a battery yet but my friend has them too and she had a battery and they work really well on the battery too - you can easily do a full clip with a fully charged battery.
