New Connie owner, any advice?

Loving hearing all your little bits and pieces of advice, and the photos are just ??

I wasn’t actually thinking of a Connie when I was horse hunting, I was actually after a palomino of some sort as the horse is going to be a) an early 40th birthday present to myself and b) the last horse I have to buy(all going well ??) so I wanted the childhood dream horse (palomino)
it was by sheer chance I came across Mika, I instantly fell in love with her. She had the sweetest face and such a kind look in her eyes.
granted she’s smaller than I had hoped for. I’m five foot eight and always went for the lanky Tb/warmblood types before and 16.2hh was my minimum size preference.
however, I have been told that Connies have a tendency to keep growing until they are about 7-8 years old, and that they can chunk out, so fingers crossed she does lol.
whatever happens, she’s got a home for life with me, and hopefully we are going to have many years of fun ahead of us.

her colouring is just an added bonus ?

Wonderful breed! I've owned 2 and ridden a fair few part breds. Very very kind and lovely with other horses and mainly level headed!. They do have a very stubborn streak and can be bargy to handle, so need firm boundaries set. They love work and are very quick learners and can turn their hooves to pretty much anything!. Apologies, I do not know how experienced you are, but I'd suggest you book some lessons to get you both started once pony settles in, so you can continue as you mean to go on. Good luck and have lots of fun!.

31 years owning/riding as of this year ? but already got a fantastic trainer at hand who is going to help me out. As she’s still only 5 years old I want to make sure she has the absolute best start I can give her ?

Love them and got so frustrated by them. One had a real sense of humour...forgetting how to canter in dressage tests and tanking off with the YO when she rode him....in walk. One used to hide from the farrier, the vet, anyone unusual, never got him into the wash box. Quirky, sensitive but when onside and working with you, incomparable. If I can get down to a lighter riding weight, I'll get another one.

I like you was not looking for a Connie as previous horse was ID/Thoroughbred and I was looking for something similar. Best thing I ever did buying a Connie, he will be my last horse as I’m the wrong side of 65, but he’s such fun, he’s over height and I’ve had him 5 years now. We have had a go at most things at Riding Club level and he always has a can do attitude. Jumps anything asked and is scopey, would do much more if the jockey was braver! Nothing seems to phase him. Brilliant to hack as forward going and good in all traffic. I think he’s the most unspookey horse I’ve ever ridden. He has got his quirks but mainly from a handling point of view and I’m guessing were caused by a slightly rough start in life. Today I took him for a schooling session the first since lockdown and he took up from where we left off, they have very good memories and are quick to learn. I’m sure you’ll have fun with yours

Oh Pearl is definitely a Diva of the first order She is wonderful but quirky, infinitely kind but silly, amazinly versatile but sensitive, forward but soft mouthed Would lay down her life for you if she liked you but if not you wouldn;t get within 3 feet of her

The Princess is part Connie part TB x ID.

She's a total split personality - when she's good she's very very good & vice versa.

Needs endless patience but I wouldn't be without her ?

Oh and she's still filling out at 10 ?
