new dog

Hi can anyone give me a bit of advice pls...I have an elderly but still active collie cross and am considering getting a new puppy/dog with the idea that she will help with its early training and behaviour as she is just a fantastic dog. Im guessing that she doesnt have more than a couple of years left at the most as her general health is deteriorating with age and I cant imagine not having a dog with me so feel that if I overlap them she will help me raise another great dog. I am worried that this may cause problems with the new dog when she does die tho and dont want to cause more trouble in the long run....has anyone had any experience of this that might help? thanks
 
I've got to be honest, I have never had a problem with my remaining dog(s) when I have lost one - they have always been fine. Sounds like a good plan to me

No in all seriousness it should be fine.
The most i have ever had was a few days of being a bit sad and grumpy.
 
Good idea to get a pup theolder dog can teach it lots,i replaced one of my dogs this year ,and the older dog has got a new lease of life, they are getting on great
 
Many years ago I was in the same situation - 12 year old greyhound, told they don't live that long, didn't want to be without a dog etc etc. So got a lurcher puppy. Greyhound eventually put to sleep at 17. I think she just lived out of spite! Not that I'm complaining; she was a lovely dog and I was devastated when she did finally go. She went all through University with me and she is on the front row of the group graduation photo. Possibly the only dog in the country with a law degree. We got another puppy almost immediately after she went and now I maintain 3 at any one time.
