So did I read right, that show/hacking jackets now dont have to be worn when competing at BE events if the competitor chooses? Is this for dressage too and not just SJ? So if so, is there a rule as to exactly what type of stock shirt can be worn? Im assuming long sleeved (and short possibly but no sleeveless?) and plain white?

Personally I couldnt be happier, hate sweltering on a hot day!

I was really surprised to read this, I must admit I like the traditional dress code for eventing and hope the sj and dressage phases don't get too blingy, I always felt xc allowed for personal statements in bright colours etc and that was enough.

yep, I think its great that they have caught up with BD by letting riders decide for themselves whether they wear a jacket or not, i agree with tradition and like to see jackets worn but judges can't always be trusted to act in the best interest of the rider. I was at Tweseldown on one of the hottest days of the year this year, so hot that they had bowsers of water at the end of XC but both the SJing and DR judges refused to let us take them off. If footballers had to play in coats all year round, there would be uproar on health and safety grounds!

this is the rule:
At Intermediate level (excluding the Intermediate Championships) and below, jacket colours are no longer confined to black, dark blue or tweed and may be any single conservative colour in muted tones, or, competitors may choose to ride without jackets. Competitors may choose to wear a fitted waistcoat in any conservative colour in muted tones. If no jacket is worn a suitable long/short sleeved shirt that fastens at the neck (white or cream and not bright or multi-coloured) must be worn.

so in answer to your questions:
-yes its for SJ & DR
-Stock shirts white or cream with short or long sleeves, no sleeveless

I'm pretty sure i'm due a wash out - i had good weather and ground all year apart from Tweseldown UA/ storm Brian! I had two 30+ degree days at RackhamBE and T'down BE

Thank goodness for that!! I've always found it so frustrating that competitive riding wear is so hopelessly impractical. I've almost passed out having to compete in a jacket at almost 30 degrees. Other sports let people compete in technical kit that supports good performançe, why not riding?

I'm very happy to read it! We did our first ODE on the hottest day of the year, but luckily it was a PC one and they let us take jackets off if we wanted (although you have to have long sleeves to jump, so if you didn't have a long sleeved shirt you had to put it back on for SJ...)

Great I did read right then! Can anyone clarify then - for the dressage, youd wear a stock with the shirt but do you need to for the SJ phase? Or can it just be the shirt alone (like for BS nobody wears a stock)?

Not 100%, of the few times we were allowed to take our jackets off for showjumping, everyone had their stock on still.

I just have a couple of small safety pins to secure the 'tails' to my shirt :)
