For those of you who know my small collection of ex-racehorses, there is a little news. Our little Halling horse was sold to be a pointer for a surprising amount of cash in the end - I had hoped to buy him but the price, combined with impending house move and preceding wedding, meant that it wasn't meant to be.. However, the positive bit of it is that he has a good home (and not out to the Middle East to an uncertain future which was my great fear) and I have said that if it doesn't work out, then they know where to find me..

However, I have managed to acquire a little grey ex-racehorse - a 4 year filly by Verglas out of a Hernando mare, racing name Clear Wonder, probably about 15.3-16hh. Here is my new filly - she needs a stable name, any suggestions?

I picked her up yesterday and she's staying with a friend until we move to our new yard. She has a lovely temperament and came recommended to me as one not to miss and a serious jumper so we shall see how she turns out.

She doesn't quite have Halling's flash movement but I think her brain is better and she is much stronger behind than Halling. Anyway a little video of her turned out for the first time at her temporary digs, she was very sensible, bless her, after a bit of a hot sweaty time loading and travelling!

Any thoughts about stable names? My husband's contribution thus far is "A horse called Wanda'...! ;)

I quite like Wanda. (Good political move to go with the new hubby's choice, too. ;))

Otherwise you could go predictable and call her Claire?

Another fan of Wonder, (Wander?). Then when she is good (she can't not be now!) you will call her Wonderful!

Good luck, hope you have a whole load of fun with her.

I can't comment on names, my ex racer Fatal Ridge became Fridge, on account of that I really should leave well alone.. Just wanted to say what a lovely one you have found!! I bet you can't wait to get started with her.

Sorry to hear about Halling. Although it does sound like a good home and, like you said, it's not the middle east!

New mare is very pretty but as I have the imagination of a gnat no names are forthcoming!

I like Rosie, used to ride a grey filly called West Hill Rose years ago when I worked on a racing yard for a while. Whatever you decide to call her, she's nicely put together and very nice.

Thanks all, quite excited about her! Just got to get moved to new house and then will be able to crack on - cannot wait!

I like Fleur, I think she looks very pretty and needs a lady-like name!

Good luck in your new place. :)

Thus far, really like Cleo and Wanda - think I'll probably wait and see what she's like at home and then pick one ;)
