New feather mite product,.

Haven't heard of it - do you have a link to the product? Always interested to find new ways of getting rid of mites, as the dectomax injections and pig oil & sulphur just don't work for my chap...

I've seen it but have never tried it- you'll have to let us know how you get on as a powder sounds so much easier to use!- would be interested to know, as the only one that actually works on my cob is the Deosect!

Interesting, probably need to mask up for application though.

I use an Ivermectin oral sheep wormer (Oramec or Noromectin) pour some into a smallish squeezy bottle and work it through the feather. A few days later I put Pig Oil and Sulphur on in the same way, repeating this every couple of weeks. I use the Ivermectin treatment every couple of months.

How do you get hold of the wormer?

Basically, if its the same Nettex product I saw at the local tack shop, advertised for "Feather Mites", there's nothing "new" about it coz what it is, is Diatomaceous Earth, commonly used in alternative farming/husbandry regimes for nasties such as chicken lice, red mite, etc etc.

Basically its like a sharp sand which penetrates/punctures the shell and outer coating of the "nasty" and thus kills it.

I've used it for fleas in the house, sprinkled it on the carpet, then hoovered it up again; and the problem was noticeably better. Also used it direct on the dogs.

If you feed in "Diatomaceous Earth" into a search engine you'll get a whole lot of (useful) information. Well worth researching.

So I see no reason why it shouldn't work for feather mites. But there has got to a cheaper way of buying it!!
