Is anyone else affected by the new FEI rules (Articles 105 and 123) which require foreign riders competing abroad to gain permission from their national federation (i.e. non-UK riders competing in the UK or UK riders competing abroad)?

That is not a new rule, it has been in existence since my parents moved to Belgium for sure (1991). It means I still have to pay BE my membership fee every year, even if I only wanted to do national competitions here in Belgium.

Mmmm interesting! BD are only just implementing it, I wonder why? I saw it in the new magazine p.56 that BD won't be renewing memberships or accepting new memberships from foreign nationals without this paperwork (doesn't even seem consistent with the rules themselves which allow the national bodies to make exceptions in the case of Competitors Living Abroad).

I think they are doing it just as a special Christmas present for me so I can spend the next five years embroiled in Greek bureaucracy just to do a prelim!

I was wondering about this too. Does it apply to all levels of competition? Why on Earth would they care about where you're from at prelim? How on Earth do I get the paperwork? I don't even know who the responsible people in my home country are...

Where are you from.? The FEI can give you contact details for your national federation

Knowing their contact details and getting the piece of paper out of them may be two different things if you have ever come across Greek bureaucracy - Spookypony I hope you are from a more accommodating country!

I'll give BD a call tomorrow and update!

I actually have dual citizenship...I wonder if I need the paper from BOTH countries? I'd better look into this!

Seems like an awful lot of fuss!

Ditto RUNVS - easy yes... more expensive, of course.. I have to contact the BEF every year - send them a form to stamp and sign confirming that they allow me to compete in Germany and have a german license... however, for them to do this, I also have to be a member of the BHS... so ... need to pay all the membership stuff for me and neddie to the German FN.. and then of course some more money to the BHS... would not mind as much if I was doing top stuff.. but when you are only competing at novice level as an amateur, it seems a bit over the top... what happened to the EU ??

I don't think I need this in Switzerland. My application states that I am a British citizen and details of my work permit. I have never been asked for anything. I do have a Swiss competition license so maybe that makes a difference.

I also was never asked for one for SJAI when I lived in Ireland.

If I am supposed to have one and I don't, what are the consequences?

I gave BD a call this morning and they said that they don't think I should have a problem, which does seem to conflict with what it says in the magazine, but as my renewal is not due till March I suppose I have to wait and see!

SJ1 - presumably you do not need it, I know that in Germany, I cannot get a renewal on my german license without the paperwork from BEF, and without that I cannot do any entries to compete. When you compete, are you shown on the entries list as GBR nationality? (makes me smile if I am at a show doing a 2ft9" class and my name comes up on the screen with the GBR next to it...

... but then simple things make me smile

OK, I emailed BD, and they said I needed the "permission to compete" from both countries. So now I've emailed both my national federations to ask about how to get this. I feel like such a n00b, since I was a little girl the last time I competed in anything affiliated, and as such I have no idea how these organisations work.

Naively, I thought my biggest worry for starting the pony in prelim was to make sure his canter circles are balanced, and that he's not rushing his transitions!
