I am looking at buying a trailer but I think the floor may need to be redone so how much is it to put a new floor in a rice? And is it possible to put it in your self to save some ££££? (dad is an engineer and friend a mechanic so plenty of knowledge) Also I think the partition may need replacing so how much is that likely to be or can we make one our selves?
One last question do any of you travel with out a partition and do the horses travel ok?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to work out if I can afford it and how much it would cost to sort it out as I am hopeing to get the boy out and about this year so it would be great if we had our own transport as fiding someone to share has been hard :D

A new fitted floor will cost in the region of £1,000.00. If you do it yourself then obviously you will save on the labour charges. The floor will need to be re-moved and all the supporting structures checked thoroughly and then any rust dealt with.
Also make sure that the wheel bearings. tow hitch and ramp are checked thoroughly. Also check that the trailer has trailer tyres on it and not car tyres and that the pressure is up to corect pressure of 80 p.s.i.

Take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKqXL-6ORBA

We had a new floor put in our rice trailer about 3 years ago. All the supports were checked, all rust dealt with, it cost us £250. So dont know now if it was a cheap job, or Peternatt lives in a completely different area to me! But we are very happy wiht the work, and the trailer carried 2 16hh horses quite happily.

We bought a rice richardson about 2 years rom a guy who used to be a distributor for them. He said we could buy a new wooden floor in a pack from the manufacturer for about £250 and it fits easily. Also I have the original tyre pressures for my trailer on a label inside the jockey door. They are no where near 80 psi in fact I believe they're about 36 psi - these are as stated by rice richardson!!!!! Admittedly they are different for each size of tyre but no where near 80 psi - I'd of thought they'd explode at that rate.

Yes I would say around 40psi for the standard type horse trailer tyres , 80psi would seem right for the small wheeled trailers like equitrek, however
LOWER than recomended presure is the main cause of blowouts!!!! so it pays to find out the correct presure and check regularly..
