Hi everyone, I'm planning to go the the new forest in september after the kids go back to school for a week's holiday.

Has anyone got any recommendations for places to stay?

Also any riding experiences? I'm a fairly confident rider out hacking and my boyfriend has done a fair bit on my horse but still only been riding on that one horse, so looking for somewhere not too overly expensive but not just walk/trot.

Any helps would be grand! :D

Riding stables in and around Burley, lovely location.

Dont laugh, but at Godshill near Fordingbridge is a place called Sandy Balls (!) where you can stay in log cabins, its a holiday camp place, and 2 mins from there is a riding stables with direct hacking on to the Forest.

Ooo a log cabin sounds ideal. Is the riding expensive? Someone I know went without looking into it and rang a place that was 60 quid for an hour of walk and trot!

Hi We have just got back from sandy balls, it was ace!! We stayed in a ready tent, it had 4 bedrooms and slept 6, had everything in it apart from sleeping bags!! Cost us £165 for 4 nights! The stables are called arniss equestrian and sandy balls would sort out all your riding needs! Google arniss for prices etc. I can honestly say we loved the holiday there, we live in notts and well worth the drive. The ponies living wild, the breath taking wild heathland.... go for sandy balls, it was the best uk camping hol i have ever ben on and we are going back next year x

Couple of years ago,my daughter and I rode at Ford Farm stables near Brockenhurst. Back then, I think we paid about £30 each for an hours hack. It was fab. We had really resposive horses, and had several gallops. We were monitored carefully to ensure we were coping and had we not wanted to do something, we could have declined. Like you, I mainly ride one horse but I had no prob with the horse I had as he was great. We stayed at a small flat in Lyndhurst with access to the forest just a two min walk. My next aim is to box our horses and stay there with them ... one day!
