I have links to the New Forest National Park Authority's Draft Plan which is potentially rather worrying for horse owners keeping their equines within the national park.

I'm still trying to find out all the information (which is I suspect deliberately very hard to find) but there is a consultation period currently running, and YOUR COMMENTS ARE NEEDED.

If you would PM me, then I am happy to forward the information on to you to read and I hope you will then understand why I am trying to circulate this to as many potentially affected people as possible.

I'm bumping this us, because this is VERY IMPORTANT for all keepers of "recreational horses" in the forest. Commoners or not.

To make this less cryptic, here is a short link to an article which explains the proposals.

The draft plan is published in paper form today, I can email a link to it or else please contact the NPA direct on 01590 646600 to obtain a printed copy. Consultation period finishes at the end of September.

Thanks for that, makes very interesting reading.

There doesnt seem to be any real sense to what you can and cant do within the boundaries of the "National Park".
Last year we were finally granted planning permission to put a school in, and we were told the main reason for being allowed, was so that we wouldnt ride as much on the Forest - so it seems the people in power, would rather see hundreds of menages dotted everywhere, thinking these riders then wont hack out!

Also, you can hardly make any alterations to your house, even with planning permission, and yet a typical forresters cottage/bungalow can be demolished and a four/five bedroom mansion be built in its place!

Sorry, mini rant on my part - I am all for protecting this beautiful place that I am so lucky to live in, but some of the proposed legislation is just ridiculous.
