what do you want to know besides the fact they are THE best kids ponies and brilliant for Adults too!

I agree, having worked in a RS and now having a friend who breaks in a few newfies they are great. lovely attitude to work, nice to have around, normally easy to break and generally a damn site easier than welsh though I wouldn't swap him for the world

I have a NF and my cousin has one too, known a few others over the years. Brilliant ponies, very intelligent and can be used for anything. Good little jumpers and kind natured.

Just have to be careful with their weight. Tend to have good feet and low maintenence though.

good temperament. friend had a couple that were left a bit old and were a problem to break the rest were very easy and pleasant, could take them anywhere, ride them anywhere.

did pairs DTM with one this year, he is 6, completely ignored the manic welsh (Frank) doing flying changes in all the canter work and just carried sweetly on blantantly ignoring the badly behaved 16yo.

New forest ponies are great. Such a fab alternative to the Welsh. I purchased a newforest yearling some years ago. She was a super pony in all ways. I kept her until she was 10 and then had to sell. She is still in the area now and is 20 years old bless her. I see her regularly. Could do anything with her

*sits on hands*

My new forest pony has literally changed my horsey life. He was my last attempt at remaining horsey after several accidents with my previous horse. I have to say now if our sofa was big enough I would allow him a place on it. I have never known a breed with so much character and hardiness. My daughters first pony will be a Forest pony, I believe they are absolutely priceless in many ways. Why were you asking?

I want one!!!

(But can't!!)

I love Newfies.

My first loan pony was a New Forest mare. Lived out, a bit of hay in the winter, no shoes, no rug, bred a couple of foals. Would be dragged out of the field by her owners for the odd ride or show which she did very willingly.

Then I loaned her and she went out a lot more!! We hacked everywhere with my dog. Went to shows/gymkhanas and had a ball.

She really was ideal.

Then part loaned another when I was a grown up. He was only 13.2hh too but would happily SJ and XC around the 3ft mark. Was very whizzy but totally reliable and safe. Could've hacked him down Oxford Street!

Then few years ago I bought a couple of weanling fillies from the New Forest sales. Kept them until they were 3yrs. Sold them as new horse (The Madhossy!) was on the way.

And have regretted selling them ever since. (Madhossy lasted less than a year

( ) They were sweet, funny, loving and SO EASY!!

Oh I want 2, 4 and 5!!! the top ones are nice too actually.

(are they for sale?)

I have a NF and hes the easiest little thing I've ever owned- nothing is a bother for him, and oh so friendly.

Thats's it, I'm convinced. I've been pondering whether to go for a NF or similar this time as I have just sold my cob and want something that is straight-forward and willing, with no 'ifs' or 'buts'. I've had it with cobs! Lol.

New Forests make fantastic genuine allrounders for adults and kids and are usually pretty easy going.
If I wasn't so heavy I have a field full of them myself

My daughter has a n/f he's great ..kind .. willing to work hacks out alone .. and she does dressage on him , i wouldn't sell him for anything , oh and they live off fresh air !

I have had my NF mare since she was 4, she's now 17, she's the best thing ever, so kind, she'd never kick or bite, when she's worried(i.e. with fly spray!) she'll just shove her bum in your face! Up until now she's had brilliant feet no health problems at all, this year she has got laminitis unfortunately :-( something to watch out for.. I have her son too who is NFxTB and he's quite a bit different, got more TB in him than NF very silly he is! I can't fault them, she hacks out alone, in company and is always a nanny horse for flighty youngsters! They take everything in their stride!

My first pony was a NF, and she was a fab little mare, broke my heart when we sold her.

Binky, my current NF is another wonderful pony, can be a bit cheeky but very gentle too. I admit I only have mad, useless mares to compare him to now, but he is still a dude. I'll never want another breed now.

JM, yours are lovely, especially the bay roan.

They are tough little things and would try their heart out for you. I have an overheight connie on loan as I'm fairly light 5ft 8 but currently riding a 14hh chunky monkey NF at the yard from the Furzey Lodge stud. He is the most super thing I have ridden and has never refused a fence or even come out of the placings at anything he has turned his hoof to. He does showing, dressage, SJ, XC, hunting, endurance, PC with a child and RC!!!!! They have to be the most versatile breed I know. B***** to the fact I'm tall - I want a full up native when I look to buy
grin.gif

PS: JM have you any full up chunky NF's haha

Wonderful wonderful ponies, I can't recommend them enough.

Meet my latest addition. This one is a real genuine proper NF pony who runs out on the Forest and hopefully will in time breed me many many lovely foals. Queenie is 2 at the moment and this is her "in" for a few weeks R&R and general put some condition back on her after a tough winter. What a fantastic temperament for a semi-feral youngster don't you think? William who is leading her is 19 months old... I also own her older half sister

And my lovely boy Ted who started it all, the first pony I ever bought, the first one I ever went to look at and he has exceeded all our expectations in every sphere, yet is still happy to carry me out on a gentle hack every once in a while as well s do far more high powered stuff with my daughter.

BUY ONE!!!

What a lovely thread, and a real testament to the breed. If anyone on here is querying getting one, it will be the best money you have ever spent. Look at www.newforestpony.com and www.nfed.co.uk (I cant, I end up having crazy delusions that I will win the lottery at the weekend and can then afford an entire family of them). Love them!
