New Forest pony brand mark?

A NF pony has recently arrived at our yard. Apparently it didn’t come with a NF passport but it has a brand that is a C underlined. Anyone recognise it? The owner said they haven’t been able to find out anything about it.

Also I was surprised that the branding was done on the saddle area - is this normal? My Criollo has one on his neck and one on his shoulder.

NF brands identify the owner, I think, so the NF society would be able to tell you whose brand it is.

My NF is branded under her saddle, it would have been done many years prior to a saddle going near her.

New Forest Pony Society should know. Or if you have the registered name you may be able to search for it.

I think the owner said the society didn’t know, (which is a bit odd!)

I doubt whether it is a pure new forest, maybe just sold as new forest "type". The breed society would know, but def agree @Peregrine Falcon is my go to for forest information.

Hi. Not listed in the stud book. Is it definitely just C underlined? If you have a pic you could PM me.

Perfectly normal to brand in the saddle area. Majority will be done as foals if staying out on the forest with their dams when they come in on the drift.

I’ll ask owner for permission to take a photo. I’m about to go away for a couple of nights so it’ll be a few days. Thanks
