Just Been Thinking Weather Or Not It Is A Good Idea To Buy A Foal From The New Forest Sale And What Time Of Year Is It On??
Has Anyone Been There Before??
I've been there before - just for a look mind there are some cracking foals and youngsters there - if you go make sure you get there early so you can take a good look round, and set your budget realistically - you can get carried away with the bidding thing!!
And remember they are sold in guineas (sp?) which is about £1.05!!
Not sure about driving but nf's make fantastic allrounders, seriously underated ponies IMO! I would love to go to the sales but don't think I could restrain myself from buying another one!!
i used to drive my forest mare we never had any problems, she enjoyed it, i have forest filly that if she dosent grow big enough to ride she will be broken to harness
I didn't let my self go yesterday. I cannot let a good horse go and really not in a position for anymore. I'm a HUGE New Forest fan. I'm down to just the one New Forest currently, a very excting BSJA, maybe FEI protenial.
I loooove going though, some cracking foals go through those auctions. I prefer a yearling myself, that bit of extra time seems to help them be that bit more bold and confident without to much forest experience. Plus being a more well grown helps you get a better idea of what sort of pony it'll make and how well grown it is compered to others.
However if you were looking for a foal you wouldn't of found any in the Augest sales, the foals aren't old enough so are sold in the September sales.
As said get there nice and earlie to have a decent look and get a good position in the ring.
I bought 2 foals a few years ago. Oh what fun they were.
Grew up into cracking little ponies - unfortunately too little for me, so I sold them to nice families where I hope they still are. Regret it a little as they really were gorgeous.
There are some cracking foals out on the forest this year so should be a good selection at the sales. I think last year the colts were going for about £150 and the fillies around £200, more for really nice examples.
