New forest sales

Totally haven't scrolled through these multiple times....

My picks would be lots 19, 42 and 56. Ngl, 56 is in there partly because he's strawberry roan, but also he's called Bill!! And I would LOVE to have Bill the Pony ❤

(Not that I would let my being a Lord of the Rings fan EVER sway my judgment 👀)

Really sad to see Lot 60 - 3yo, shown ridden out hacking, in the school, over small jump, looks like hunted too, carrying a substantial rider for the pony's size on almost all the ridden clips :( .
This 3 yo has already been touted on NFED and New Forest UK F/B page - Chief you don't know how lucky you are ☺️ (he went through sales as a yearling but was bought by someone who really looks after them brilliantly and only sells on to best homes.)

So many not sold, and prices seem very low to me considering the market in general. Sellers really need to do better ads, stood up side on photos and a video of them moving if they want people to buy in an online sale.

That overdone 3yo didnt sell.

Bids only got to £500.

I appreciate it's a smaller pony which would have played a part, but I imagine if that had been a 4yo or 5yo, then it would have had far more interest.

People don't like to see native pony 3yos under saddle.
3yo ponies don’t sell to be honest. Whatever you do it’s wrong.

Sell unbacked in the spring - risk of project buyers putting too heavy riders on and doing too much. Small market because almost no one wants their child to back a pony.

Sell unbacked at 3.5 - everyone thinks you failed and are passing on a problem. Sell backed and ridden away as 3.5 year old - either buyers think you’ve done too much or they want to get on and go and forget the pony is 3. A good pony would do anything first time - that video COULD have been one trot over a pole, one attendance at a meet for 30min (no jumping), few backing/riding away rides. It could also have represented lots of work, but who knows?

Sell unbacked at 4 - again, buyers are suspicious. In my experience it’s not setting a pony up for success to be backed at 4 either. That little bit of work in the autumn of their 3yo year makes a world of difference to their attitude when they turn 5. Adults might not notice the difference but kids will. Then the pony might get passed on…and on.
