I am just costing up my options for the winter, following an injury to my eventer now requiring full box rest and a period of rehabilitation. I am considering putting him into full livery along with his 2yo companion for 6 months, but need to work out what I can afford by renting out my place. I have over 5 acres, split into 6 paddocks with electric fencing, 2 brand 12x12 new stables (less than a year old), tackroom and a smaller slightly older stable, yard, hardstanding for lorry/trailer etc... There is plently of grass now (far too much form me) although the place does not have running water (water butts collect plenty off the guttering) or electricity but there is professionally wired up lighting running of a battery and solar panel for the stables and yard which is fantastic. Hacking is ok - but over 2 miles to the open forest with roadwork. Only want to rent to considerate person for sole us for a 6 months over the winter. Just wondered what your thoughts are on pricing, I am struggling to find much locally to compare against.

We have sole use of a yard (old dairy farm) and 3 acres on the open forest. We have 5 stables, one of which we use as a feed room but not secure enough to use as a tack room. We can help ourselves to as much hay and straw as we like, the farmer uses the remaining 30 acres for hay. We have running water and lights but no power points. We pay £25 a week per horse and consider it a bargain. Hope this helps a bit.

I pay £50/w for a little yard with 3 acres, and rent another 5 acres over the road for £40/w. 3 stables, running water but no electric at the yard, just grass and water troughs at the other place. We are a mile or so from the forest, so also have roadwork. I reckon its about as good as I'm ever going to get, and I count my blessings every day for what I have managed to find. Lymington/Sway area.

It might be cheaper to keep yours at home and get someone in to see to them rather than put them on livery elsewhere? I would be concerned about getting someone out at the end of a 6 month tenancy, there are some really awful people out there... I was horrified at the state my little yard was in when I took it over in May :( Some people can be so disrespectful of others' property...
