Hey all, anyone else own a nutty new forest X Arab?
I've got a rising 5yr old that’s turned into the devil recently. Wanted to know what all of yours are/where like at this age?
what are there feet like too? I had a rubbish farrier that’s ruined her feet and now needs remedial shoeing.

5yo's are getting more confident. My NF's are generally great. Must be the arab?.

Grass is starting to come through so maybe it's a bit of a sugar rush. What's breeding NF side?

Hello and welcome ☺

Sounds like an interesting cross I had a NF X TB that was a bit nuts many years ago she never calmed down until she was about 17.

What happened to her feet with that breeding she should have pretty decent feet to go barefoot.

My NF turned into a right madam at 5yo - then back into her sweet self the year after. Not the first mare I’ve had do that either! It’s the age I’d say. Ride it out and things will be better next year!

haha unfortunately we’ve got rubbish turnout in winter so she’s on rubber paddock in the day with no grass so can’t blame the grass.

Breeding on NF side is lovelyhill Hendrix.

Haha I bloody hope she calms down slightly before 17!
Ideally I’d want her go barefoot but she’s really unlevel so needs levelling out

My NF x Arab was absolutely fearless and had opinions about absolutely everything. In the wrong home he would have got into all sorts of pickles.

What are the Arab bloodlines? Mine was from bloodlines well known to produce strong minded forward horses.

Mine was still dishing it out at 36!

I am on the sort of look out for another NF x Arab did you get yours from a stud?

I have a NF that went through a testing boundaries stage from about 5-7/8 year old but is a cracking character now, providing he's kept suitably entertained in his work. I found that keeping his brain occupied and busy was/is just as important as the physical side of work.

He was on good turn out though, which I think is important for any young horse (but appreciate not always easy to do).
.
If she's lame/unlevel then it could be that painbor discomfort is causing a change in her temperament too?

It could be the lack of proper turnout my Arab's are not nice to ride if they don't get enough good turnout alot of horses wouldn't cope with that set up.
