Feel free to include, pics, stories, general info etc.....

I am 5ft2, 11 stone (very top heavy so rest of me looks about 9 stone....) an have 14.1 5 year old Newfie mare that i am currently breaking/schooling and she is proving to be a sweetheart!

My first horse was a 14.2 NF X TB chestnut gelding. My current are 14h Bright bay reg forest bred forester gelding and a grey 15h warmblood NFx ( apparently) I never set out to buy foresters but I love those boys sooo much! The purebred is an absolute pain but a perfect bombproof hack and great little all rounder. The WBX is the most affectionate sweet boy you could have. I love them... and I come from Hampshire too, used to go treking in the forest every summer! I'm proud of my boys!
I'm 5ft 4 and ride both, my daughter is 5'7 and 17 but still takes NF to camp each year.

whys the boy a pain?

I am wanting to chaser clip my mare for first time, but having trouble finding someone with clippers, who is reliable!

YAY! i have a 12.2hh 4 year old im breaking in and bringing on. only got him 4 days ago and hes brilliant! i love him! hes by Matley Crusader..

OOOOH... my boy is CALLED Matley!!! That is his name, he is actually Matley Snoopy.
We usually call him Mattie. He is a pain as he is pushy and bargy on the ground, nips and is a naughty pony. He needs lots of smacks and lots of love.

Big fan here too :D
I bought my boy as a 3 year old, did lots of groundwork and backed him just before he turned 4. Then after a break started him and now 6 (well he will be on the 1st February) he is perfect to hack out and we are having fun with his schooling now :)

My 7 year old daughter has just started lessons on him and he is a completely different character with her! At 13.3hh he is slightly too short for me (5'8") but he carries me with ease - 10 stone... he is perfect and here for life.

OOh how cute!

My mare is proving to be a very sweet and affectionate little girl! I adore her!

She is normally so patient etc, but tonight i was 3 hours late for dinner (im a horrible mummy....) and she was very excitable!

mine is also by Matley crusader but yours at least resembles Matley Crusader being the same colour although about a hand an a half smaller- mines grey and looks nothing like his dad !

i have a NF too, he is the absolute love of my life. He is 13.2 9yr (got him as a just back 3year old). There seriously is nothing this pony can't do and jumping is his speciality!!

aww we have half brothers :) whats you ponys temp like?
we do! bless, mine is rising 3 so a bit younger, but he's amazing- only gelded in October as he was so easy- he unfased by anything, very keen to be around people and amicable- but overly food orientated... I'm going to lightly back him in august then leave him till spring 2012.

who was the dam of yours?

:)

I LOVE them. :D

I had to sell mine last year, but we still have two, the grey in my sig is a full Forester, and the blue roan is a NFXTB - they are fantastic, versatile, loving, hardy .... can you tell I am a fan! :D

My boy is a Matley too, but presumably not worthy of reply!!
Shadowboy, I think all Foresters are very greedy, its part of the native way I guess, mine have all been terrified of pigs too! Matt is truly bombproof, I would ride him along a motorway, but if he even senses pigs he will bolt!!

missed it somewhere :( sorry! whats yours like :D

I'm greedy and have 2, jet black mare and bay roan gelding, mare stud bred and gelding forest bred, 13.3 and 14.1 thou the difference in size and build of the two is unreal, the mare is a dainty little thing taking a 5ft 3 rug and small pony boots and the gelding is a stonking chap in a 5ft 9 rug (just) and an inch more bone than her wearing everything cob size. Fantastic trainable breeds for adults and capable children.

Have had my boy for 5 years, cracking little chap, very cheeky, lovely temperment,

Didnt set out to get a New Forest, rather wanted an arab, but I wouldnt be without him now!

I also have a rising 3yo by Matley crusader and New copse april but to be honest im not a fan of new forests although i love her i will never have another new forest as everyone i have met so far is stubborn and naughty in one way or another im currently trying to sell my mare with not much luck but nothing really phases her she is probably over confident.

Does anyone know how big matley crusader is as i know nothing about her mum or dad and would be interested to know there hights/temperments.

Currently have a 13.3hh (maybe?) 4yr old Newfie. Aiming to back her this year and just to break the mould she's by Sturtmoor Safari Hot Spark and Fidleywood Frenzy (if anyone knows anything about either of these?)

She was very nervous when I got her and is starting to come into her own. She's forest bred.

This is my forest bred gelding Limekiln Amigo, I bought him when he was just coming up to 6 months old he will be 5 in june. Bit of a late starter to ridden work he was backed last summer and was turned away because I have been so busy. I am hoping to restart him this spring and get him really going. He stands around 14.1hh could possibly be 14.2hh as he as grown a bit since I last measured him.

My Forester is a chestnut mare by Royal Oak Ron, she's rising 9 and I've had her since she was 8 months old. I show her at local level and county level, we have also been placed at Ponies UK a few times :)

I don't have a Newfie but I love riding them. Used to ride a Matley and a Furzey Lodge pony for my old loan horse's owner and they were super. The Matley pony used to do really well showing, never came back without the championship. They really are super duper little ponies.

QUOTE]As far as I am aware (was told by one of the ring stewards at the yearly sales/shows he looks to be about 14hh. Big thick neck, lots of mane and tail and reasonably chunky. No idea on temp although he is handled and used to people apparently- doubt he's been backed.

This is mine although the picture is 18 month old!

There are photos of Matley crusader on this website

http://www.nfstallions.info/

Also photos of my pony lovelyhill home-touch (now a gelding but sired 81 foals first!) he is also featured on the DVD of Forest-Run Stallions 2004-2005 i bought him as a gelding though. matley crusader is also on the dvd.

I think they are fantastic ponies, yes some can be quirky but they are intelligent ponies and can use that to their advantage but at their best very able having won the quadrille at Olympia more than once and also the M&M championship at olympia as well one winning the BHS x country championships too. they have been successful in dressage including para dressage.

They tend have very gentle natures which i love.

The lady who says her pony does not resemble the dad - if it was forest bred, mistakes can be made if stray into another area so they do not have 100% accurate results, for example they thought one of my ponies sons who is roan was sired by a different stallion who is roan (my pony is bay) but it was only when they did DNA testing for his stallion approval did they found my pony was the dad!

Love all your pictures!!

A question! Is Little Dolly a new forest pony? Some have said yes, others say some sort of Welshie. I'd love some opinions from those who know!
