New Forests - tell me show me

Oh my favourite subject :D

I had a black NF gelding that came off the forest. He was cheeky, naughty (some might call it opinionated!) but incredibly talented. He was a BSJA pony, did PC and is a great games pony, I've sold him onto a fab games home where he is thriving. He jumped 3'3 all day long, did 4' on him once!

Parachute, you'd be fine, the rule of thumb with Foresters is they can carry a stone a hand, my husband on the dun above is 5'11" and weighs about 12.5stone, Marmalade is a full up 14.2hh and she carries my husband with ease, out hunting or drifting etc.
 
My sis's 24 year old NF. She's 13.2hh, my sis is about 5'5 and a 8-9 stone. Mist is full of beans to ride, she'll have a bit of a go at anything, not spooky or anything :) Lovely pony, just wish she was a hand taller really.

Webbie, thank you for your lovely comments, we paid £50 for Marmalade but then gave her breeder another £40 as they kindly did loads of handling with her before she came to us. We first saw her and bought her at two weeks old, she came to us at seven months, she's 10 now and is with us forever! She has been mistaken for a Conemara, Highland and Iberian on several occasions but rarely recognised as a full New Forest!

The daughter rides one for someone. She's rising 6 & they've owned her since they bought her off the forest at 6 months old. She's very quick to learn & super consistent when she has learned something. She was registered BS last year at 4yrs old & in the year she's been registered she's only not got placed once! She qualified for Blue Chip on her first attempt too :) she only made 14hh but is a very flashy mover & I think she will make a fab whp too!
 
I haven't posted much on here before but could not resist this one! I have a 14.1 new forest, Rowdown Red Rustler , he is forest bred,was on the forest until he was five :)

Sue_nf (sorry cannot quote as on phone) we are in basingstoke in north hampshire (near berks) and he came into the robinsons store to be clipped and plaited- he loved it! (And the kendal mint cake!)
 
Mine is passported Newforest but I'm pretty sure she's crossed with something else, everywhere I go people suggest hackney/andulucian/TB? She's 14.1 and 13 this year. She's absoultely nuts, I've never ridden a horse that goes so fast when jumping..at PC she's known as 'the pony who defies the laws of physics' :p She's very good in traffic and doesn't bat an eyelid at anything.

I used to ride a cracking bay new forest,was a poor doer & a lot of people thought he was a mini TB! Stood at 14.1hh,was very sharp & not really a kids pony. I didn't do that much flatworm with him but he had an enormous jump. We sold him for a fair amount of money,£2.5k & this would've been about 15yrs ago. I was given some money from his sale to buy a horse & bought a sharp,bay TB who's a poor doer!
 
Eventhough I have a NF who is making me pull my hair out (hence the username) there are the best ponies........ever.

I had a "Merrie" pony until I lost him 2 years ago (to colic). He was wonderful.

Have gone for a completely different type now, there is a lot of variety in the breed.
Just hoping we can get over the current problems and she will turn out as good.
She's rising 5 and came off the forest last October completely untouched. As they say better late than never.:eek:

Merryn my other one couldn't be more diffrent. He's the sweetest chap you could hope to meet. Very food orientated but very obliging in every way. If he steps out of line you can almost hear him appologise. ;) He's 14.1hh

How is your Herbie bred Laura? I also have a forest bred called Herbie who is the spitting image of yours only he's 14.1. He's also naughty, opiniated, not spooky and loves to get his own way. My mum bought him to hack and showjump and I then turned him into my dressage and showing pony, although he definitely prefers the jumping!
 
Mine is 13.2 and is a bit of a gem - not that I'm bias! She's turned out to be a cracking hunting pony this season and seems to thrive on hard work. She's generally very well mannored and very loving, but is a bit of a mare really! And I'm about 9stone and she is still more than capable of running off with me, hence why I hunt her in a pelham!! I'm 21 and still enjoying my first pony, we've definatly grown up together :)

Really????!!! I would never ever put thirteen and a half stone on my boy he'd collapse. In fact I don't know many that would genuinely manage it. I love NF ponies but there are so many with poor confo out there as they are often considered to be the 'cheaper' native I can't see them coping.
 
Foresters are just awesome!

Living in the forest I see an awful lot of them, both roaming about and through clients. Here's a small selection of the guys and gals i'm riding atm:
Asbo, 7 yr old 14.2hh forest bred gelding by Furzeylodge Benjamin out of a Springmoor mare. He events at BE90, should be out at BE100 by the end of the season and is just a dude to hunt. He's a bloshy sort, quite lazy but very strong when he goes and is built like a brick **** house!

Star, 5yr old 13.2hh forest bred, full sister to the one above. She's a bit finer than him, pretty laid back kinda girl who's a real trier.

And finally the one and only 'Her Royal Feralness' Meggystar aka Megs. 13.1hh 5 yr old.
I accidently came home with Megs from Beaulieu Rd sales year before last. She was very wild but soon came round to be quite possibly the best pony i've had. She was very fine, built like a thoroughbred with a temprement to match but i've never sat on a pony who was a bold or clever as her. She had a fab jump on her and she's now in a showjumping home with a young girl cleaning up at BS.

All in all foresters are great ponies and they come in many shapes, sizes and temperaments :)
 
Here is my boy, Tommy or Farriers Field Day to give his full name. He's 5 next month and we'll be backing him properly this summer after a bit of a delay last year due to injury (my Mum's not him!)

hi just had to post on this thread...i have a nf.... he is a 14 hand black gelding,came off the forest from the sales when he was a few months,his dad is pilley prince william..ive had him 3 years now and boy has he been a challenge,still is but he is the most affectionate,loving,loyal pony ive ever had....he is a handfull when he wants to be,a naughty boy in the field(bully!!!)i cant leave him tied up but........he is a joy to own,i look forward to seeing him every day and he amuses me so much with his little quirks...i know now what makes him tick so i find him easy to handle but wouldnt ever let him be a kids pony again,give him an inch and he would take a mile...he is 10 now and im hoping to do lots with him this year,some dressage,mini ode,fun rides.
dont know how to post a pic...i havent worked that out yet...by the way im 9 sone and 5"4 and he acts like im not there half the time...
 
I have a 13.2hh new forest mare she is by lovelyhill cranborne heights and lived on the new forest til I got her at 2.5yrs. I only bought a nf as I couldn't afford a Connie! but she is a superstar! very laid back but has a cheeky streak and a huge buck in her! she is a jumping machine! and we r going be 80 this year and British sj. she also does whp. love her to bits!
