Wow, What can I say. One of the kids on the yard has gone away for the weekend and asked me if I wanted to ride her pony for her today. I cannot remember the last time I have had so much FUN!!!! Much as I love my to 2 bigguns, he was absolutely fantastic. I think I am in love.
Totally pointless post I know, but had to share.

Best breed. At college I'll trade any horse I get in the lesson for the little New forest type called Charlie, my legs come down to his knees and we whiz around in total pony club mannor!

The fact I'm thinking of selling all but my little jesse, my cheeky little yearling, speaks for it's self.

They're wicked - my current ride(s) depending on which one is closest to the gate are all NFs

As is the one in my avatar

He was just so great. Have always been a big Section D fan, and although don't own one myself, have 2 I regularly ride, but, can honestly say, that given the choice, I would ride him every time!

NF are amazing, I have one and he is brilliant in every way and only 5 so lovable and fun too. Best breed ever. Very underated and therefore I was able to get one for a reasonable price.

they are fabby. I rode 2 today, and though both are quite different, they were both brilliant fun as well as being very well behaved.

Mine cost me £400 (I think) at Andoversford horse fair 9 years ago. She is an out & out star! I've had her since she was 2 & I would trust her with the smallest of children. She has a heart of gold & such a lovable personality but she also has that cheeky sparkle too. she is 100% trustworthy & my little sister used to lead her in from the field at 3 (me by the side if her obviously) & she would walk by the side of her like a nursemaid. Our farrier loves her & the first time she was shoed she didn't bat an eyelid.

Of all the natives I'm definitely an NF fan. I adore her & would not part with her for any money, she's my best friend.

Also adore Newfies. Bought 2 foals from the Beaulieu sales 5yrs ago. Kept them until they were 3yrs old, and really regret selling them to buy a horse.

They were cheeky but loveable, easy to train and very people friendly. Would love another one day soon.

We have two. We have a mare that we bought as a project, she had been very badly treated / ridden by the previous owner and my OH has turned her into a bombproof dobbins. She is 14.

We have just bought a gelding who is 6 and pretty green.

I ride the gelding and my OH rides the mare (90% of the time), so he and I are both being trained at the same time.

They are both real characters, with different personalities, and when we join up with a friend who also has a gelding, it is like three kids out for a ride. We do get some snooty looks from some of the TB mounted 'serious' riders, but we just snigger like silly kids and canter off.

I guess I really should be riding something a little bigger.......NAH! Newfies are way too much fun.

EDIT: This is the OH on her mare.

Is it me or do NF's generally have an amazing jump?

Mine jumped a 5ft wall, uphill, from a standstill

(I saw her & it was not the first or last time she'd done it)

She also has a passion for jumping & I wish I'd been able to do more with her as I'm sure she would have done quite well but at least sister is now taking her XC'ing a bit etc

I just love them. One of my more sensible decisions in life.

I see too many people completely outhorsed and too proud to jump on a pony. My gelding has been used by many adults to get back their confidence that has been lost by buying too much horse. Here is my boy

I couldn't agree more.

I am just relearning to ride and despite being nearly 50 and 6"1' tall, I am happily riding a NF (he's a chunky lad) and loving every minute. I do get some VERY odd looks though.

The tales of woe I have heard of and seen over the years since my OH bought her first NF (see the jumping picture in my last post), including women with bonkers Welsh's who terrify them, but that they won't loan or sell, or others with 16 hh plus horses which get put out and taken in and never ridden, never cease to amaze me.

When I decided I'd like to start riding again the choice was easy and as luck would have it an ideal Newfie was available.
