You welcome to add pics. We are looking at a pair to add to ours, we have only ever had one before and he was a nightmare, totaly unsuitable for what we wanted.....

Thanks

I haven't owned one before but i have ridden one years ago and he was brilliant, lovely temprement, very safe and reliable pony. I suppose like every breed you can get good ones and bad ones.

I have 2
smile.gif

Poppy, dun newfie, bit sharp in her younger days, good jumper, forward going. Nice paces, trot was bit speedy.
Magic, eager, all rounder pony, loves to jump, can be cheeky, hates schooling!

They are a lovely breed, all the ones I have known anyway. Can't add pics as have a new pc and lost all my ftp settings, a lot of photos and emails and lots of other stuff as the old pc died big time(mini rant. lol)

I have 2, I've had them for 10 1/2 years now, and just had a foal out of each of them. They were my first ponies when I was 10 and they were 6 and 5 and they have just been fab!

NFs are very easy to train and have excellent temperaments. My 2 both have huge scope, Bramble inparticular, she can jump 5ft easily and shes only 13.2. Their paces are very ordinary nothing very flash about them. Oh and there stamina is fantastic too, they can go all day hunting.

I've also broken both of mine to drive and they were so easy to teach even though they were 14 and 13. I love them to bits which is why I will never ever sell them.

Piccies of my 2-

Thanks, they look great!

We would rather their paces were 'normal' because they would be wheelers, and abit bigger than our leaders, but for that we will have to wait and see!

Ive had two pure NFs. One (loaned) was a complete pig!!! Very nappy. But good in traffic. He had been a bit messed up by owner tbh and I was just a novice kid so that didnt help.

The other was a bit quirky but fantastic PC pony. Once you got used to her "faces" and seasons she was a really great pony. And could she jump!! But never trustworthy in noisy traffic. She didnt mind big things but noisy things like lorries and tractors were horrid. Thats how I know she could jump as she jumped a four foot hedge on more than one occasion to escape!!!

My first pony was a New Forest. He was an extremely big character, very cheeky chap, but really sweet. Average paces but a very good jump in him. Very intelligent, very easy to train and easy to do all round. Would go all day hunting, nothing fazed him. Also very versatile - now in a home where he does everything from hacking, leading small ponies, showing, dressage, working hunter etc.

i have a beautiful pure bred NF gelding - bay, had him for 13 years ever since he was 8months old - has the most wonderful temperament and is always so willing and loving - i could not recommend another breed so highly!

i had my last one since he was 3 i broke him in, he was a fab chap he was actually 15 hh went anywhere (mcdonalds drive through, exeter high street ect,) hunted him showed him jumped him kids rode him beginners rode him... have attached a pic, id deff recommend. had started breaking him to driving when my harness got stolen, he had such a character and not a nasty bone in hes body

We had a 14h1" New Forest gelding some years ago. His paces were good & he had a lovely jump. We regularly competed him up to 3'06". He could go bigger, he had done 3'09" course & 4'+ as a single jump. Although they excel at almost anything you put them to they can be very willful. Sometimes they can be stubborn & you need to negociate with them

I've had 2 on loan and owned 2 youngsters. They were all very different but several things in common: bold, intelligent and very friendly.

They were all around the 13.2hh mark. 3 mares and a gelding. The first mare I had wasn't much of a jumper as she'd never done much until I had her, but we hacked for miles with dog in tow and she was super.

The gelding was just the most fab pony on 4 legs as far as I was concerned. Terrific jump both XC and SJ. Very strong and fast, though that was due to the way he'd been ridden in the past. Although he was scared of things like velcro, I used to ride him for miles and miles all day and he was unspookable. What heaven! He'd have been fine hacking in central London I think.

Last 2 fillies I had I sold as backed/unbacked youngsters last year. They were quick to learn, very interested in all going on around them and such fun.

Don't think Newfies are the prettiest ponies about, but they're tough, strong and able and would recommend them every time

JUST LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!!!
Couldn't own another breed of pony.

Most are...
Bomb Proof
Traffic proof
Super jumpers
Very versitie
Turstable with childern yet give an adult good ride too
Never sick or sorry
Dislike walking in water but happily jump it
Stubborn
Get on well with other horses
Cheeky
Test everybody who seems capable

I could go on...!

I just brought 'Luckly Lane Jester' or 'Jesse' he's 15months old registered New Forest by Furzey Lodge Zennica out of Sunnyside Lucky. Hes already 13HH so to make 14.2HH. Far too bold for his own good...! He's very upfront and in your face... Couldn't not like him. Pretty quick learner too seeing as a month tomorrow since he was wild. Hes so light and free moving, like a bamby, real look at me, show off. Naughty thing took him self over a 4'6ft fence (taller then him) last week to visit his neighbouring horse friends.

(the other one is a Newforest too, lovely little 13.3HH gelding, 13 years old now, every rides him from 3-60 years olds)

Oh I could talk about New Forests till the cows came home...!

I had one which I just sold. Had her for 15 yrs and she had a massive jump on her. Had an attitude but I quite liked that. Was very pretty and worked hard at anything thrown at her. Little flighty but good fun. Very hardy and good doer.
Affectionate at time but liked to do her own thing.

This is my boy, the delicious Ipley Skywalker....he's 16 months old and a real cheeky chappy who hasn't a malicious bone in his body. He is full of character though, you certainly couldn't ignore him, even if you wanted to!!
His paces, when he makes the effort, are good, and I'm hoping he'll make a decent all rounder. My heart lies with dressage so would be nice if he excelled in that area, but to be honest I really don't care.
He's a nice person to have around, even if he is going through abit of a stroppy phase right now!

New Forests are lovely, very trainable, sensible and capable competeing in every area. Nearly brought a Rushmoor foal last year, fell completely in love unfortuantely couldn't afford 3 ponies

utterly wicked ponies, can jump like stags and move very very well on the flat

Some can be bold, others can be "nahhhh won't do it coz I'm not bothered" like the one I rode on monday was
blush.gif
but said pony has been hunting and loved every minute of it.

You'll find that you get really good proper native looking ones, and then one that is more of a sport horse look, won't do anything or vice versa - I've ridden both kinds
