New hat after a fall??

Hey,

I was schooling my horse this morning in the indoor school at the yard. Had just started cantering when she tripped and fell onto her front knees. As she regained her balance and pulled herself up I was 'catapulted' out of the saddle and fell to the ground a few feet away from where she had stopped. :(
Neither of us seem to be injured, just a little stiff if anything! However, I landed on my head and did a sort of forward roll - like I said there are no serious injuries, and the flooring in the arena is rubber, but I'm aware you should replace hats after serious impact.

Would you consider this to be serious enough to have to buy a new hat?
 
Unfortunately yes - my rule is that if there is sand on the hat, it needs replacing! Unfortunately.

Yes ! - any fall on the head should be treated seriously. The impact of the weight of your body crushing down on your neck and head - is immense. Get your self checked out, better to be safe than sorry, and get a new hat, if you have escaped injury then your hat has done it's job and taken the impact for you. Don't risk it .... I know it's more expense but you do only have one head ! If it was a safety item for your horse we would all replace it without a second thought !!!
 
Yes! After any kind of fall I'm always made to replace my BP and hat. Unfortunately it's a bit costly, though does make me determined to cling on ;)
Just wanted to add that recently at my brothers uni they were made to look at a helmet that had just been used in a crash. The outside was slightly marked from the concrete, but other than that looked absolutely fine. The teacher then sliced the helmet in half and you could see the padding inside the sort of shell thing had compressed to about a quarter of its original thickness, and you never would have seen it from the outside. So, yes. I think a replacement is in order! xx

Yes new hat required. I had to replace mine this morning after head butting tarmac on Thursday while out hacking, I'm still suffering quite badly with injuries even though my hat took the brunt of it, its surprising just how hard you hit the ground even when you think you havent fallen that badly. Its just not worth the risk of keeping it, its done its job, what its designed to do. Guaranteed if you took another fall you'd land on the place where you last did and it wouldnt protect your head. Hope you feel better soon xxx
 
I landed headfirst in a field on my new JTE and you could feel the area of impact when you compressed the hat. The outer shell went in to the gap made by the core of the hat being crushed. I also had concussion - dread to think what would have happened had I not being wearing a hat or my hat had already been damaged.
Needless to say I got a new hat - a cheapy £30 vented one until I could afford a posh new one. I keep my vented one as a spare.
 
It is scary to think what could have happened without a hat.

I got whiplash a couple of months ago from a different horse turning into a bucking bronco, so I hope I'm not going to be in too much pain with my neck following today's accident.

My current hat that now needs replacing is a Dublin Onyx which wasn't particularly expensive, and did cause headaches if worn for a really long time so I guess now I have the perfect excuse to treat myself to something more comfortable!!
 
i would get a new hat if i landed on my head or ad a nasty fall but i havent really had a nasty fall so only replace my hat when nesssicary lst time my hat got too big!!! and another the velevt fell off etc
