New Hay

I've had a big bale delivered from the local farmer and it looks like it's just been cut and baled. It smells and looks lovely but I need this for a laminitic horse. I've left him a message to bring me down another old bale if he's got any left. In the meantime can I use this new bale if I soak it? It's a bit green so will probably go back to grass

I would not for a laminitic...even with soaking...but that is just me.

Are you sure it's new hay?? I don't know anyone who has cut theirs yet, let alone baled it. Also the last bale I opened (which was definately last years), was slightly green and smelt lovely and sweet, but it was definately at least 6 months old as it came from near the back of the barn, so must have been from the 1st field cut.

Our farm has cut their hay and started to bale it, although maybe its haylage.........hmmmm

yes it's this years, they got a few fields done with the good weather.

But problem is solved as he brought me down an old bale

I have got new hay in the barn. It was cut 2 weeks ago.
