I don't know, 10mph and 2m distance is very wide and slow. I find horses can be just as bothered being 'stalked' by cars for ages because the driver doesn't have the confidence to overtake.
If the horse and rider are trotting, a driver wouldn't stand a chance of getting past.

I'll caveat this by saying it's been a long time since I've personally had to overtake a horse, so possibly I drive slower and wider than I think.

Vocational Drivers will be updated through Driver CPC training. The day that I am delivering on Sunday includes a session on how to pass horses (planned as part of this course anyway).
I understand those that drive for a living are constantly being updated and doing CPC training. I was just wondering how the everyday driver will get to know about the changes?

That’s the real problem with car licences. Pass your test, and nothing to ever make you look at The Highway Code again.

I would hope that anyone who drives any vehicle in the course of their job is updated through road risk assessment process, but that still leaves many others.

I don’t know - I’ve never found government campaigns on road safety issues to be effective.

Not necessarily..only if drivers want to do that course and only if they want to sit it now. I've got two years to do three days. Most of us are hanging on to see if the CPC will be scrapped.

Interesting to read the comments in the truck drivers thread. A few comments about the lack of hi vis in the hirse riding community, and I must admit that drives me mad. I have come very close to stopping and telling riders off for not wearing any, but then i think about all the stupid things I do and remember the saying about glass houses ?

Fortunately, most drivers are well aware that they have to do 5 different courses. While there are hundreds of different courses, any competent CPC centre will update any HC material in a course.

And in doing 5 different courses in the 5 years, many will do a course with some HC/VRU content.

I also come back to my earlier point - employers have a responsibility to ensure that changes such as this are disseminated to those driving in the course of work.
