Just bought a new L.E.D. headlamp for wearing up the yard - and it has the option of using red/blue/green (as well as normal!) L.E.D. bulb - how fantastic!! But...erm...why? Very intrigued as to what I will be able to see/do with all these options! Have tried them out under the desk at work but it's not dark enough so going to have to wait to sneak up on Midas in the field later and see what he makes of the different colours approaching him through the darkness.

Anyone got any ideas? Obviously been a long time since I have bought a torch and there have obviously been some technological advances that I know nothing about!

Well I have one with an infrared light which stops the horses getting blinded and also comes in handy if there are any flies or midgies about as they are not attracted to the light.

Can't help with the other colours tho, get them flashing 80s disco stylee

I have no idea about the various colours, but would love to know how you get on with the brightness of it. Im going to get myself one for the same purpose but want a good one. There are so many cheap imports on ebay etc that i feel im going to end up with a piece of plastic tat!

Thanks for the info on the red night vision bulb! I guess I will just have to experiment with the blue and green and see if I can find any uses!!

Will give some feedback tomorrow :)

You use a red filter when stalking

This sounds very sinister ;)

I bought my OH one of these last year (he's more likely to wear a 'gadget' one plus he couldn't get his head round not blinding them with the white light). From what I remember the blue and green ones were for map reading and 'discerning liquids'. Have no idea which one was which or why you'd need to discern liquids. Good headtorch though, his has a rear light on it as well.

Ah thank you for clearing up the mystery peteralfred - I knew someone out there would know :)

Gypley - the torch is great! I only used it a few times briefly last night but very pleased with it. I used the red L.E.D. to go and catch Midas from the field (which is pitch black) the red LED didn't give off a great amount of light to be honest but I think it was kinder on my horse than shining the full beam in his face.

The normal beam gave off more light than I expected - used it for taking the wheelbarrow load round to the muckheap which is also in complete darkness - I didn't realise how much it was helping until I turned it off! The elasticated strap was comfortable and easy to pull down around my neck and put back on when neccessary (I didn't feel like walking around the yard with it permanantly on my head).

This is the one I got - I would recommend it :)
