New Henry James saddles

I’m interested to see their dressage saddle as the Pegasus Physiotherapy lady was enthusiastic about it as it doesn’t force the rider into one position.
 
I like their bridles, although my Henry James reins have very quickly become tatty looking, the leather quality is poor compared to the bridle itself. Not sure why and I do condition them regularly but they’ve faded considerably x
 
I also have asked my saddler about them as the quality in their bridle work is lovely. She hasn’t seen one yet she says but the concept looks good but she wants to look at the panels etc.

Oh no! That's dissapointing.I bought some recetly and was umming and arring about buying as there was nothing actually wrong with my old (not that old) reins but I was buying a new bridle so figured I may as well. Im not sure I'm 100% thrilled with the bridle though as one side has gone a bit weird on the head piece and they have ignored my polite message asking about it.

Agree the saddles are a lot of money!

Oh dear, yes my reins are sort of scuffed without them actually touching anything! They have faded massively, they look better once oiled but the brown leather is definitely lighter than it was and this happened after just a few months. I don’t think I’d be rushing to buy another bridle from them

Hmm, whilst I 100% agree we don't want saddles locking riders in, I would take advice on rider-saddle interaction from someone who understands that you can have weight on the pubic arch (correct) and not be sitting with a tilted pelvis (anterior) and hollow back. Having pubic arch contact, the three point seat, is desirable IMO (and in the opinion of MANY others) and should never be assumed to be because the rider is in anterior tilt and therefore incorrect, they're just not the same thing.

I have some that must be 10 years old now and still look good, haven't stretched, and the rubbery but still looks good. But maybe the quality has slipped.

Yes, raw material costs have gone up, but come on......someone is going to be making a nice fat profit from a price tag like that. 🤔🤑

i mean that is the whole point, to make a profit and run a business.............

£3200 is a VERY average price for a saddle these days, if either of mine had only cost that id be happy as larry! I have paid £5k each for an Erreplus dressage and jump and dont begrudge a penny because they really work for the horse (tricky fit) and for me (battling numerous health issues that affect what saddles i can ride in).

time will tell clearly but if these saddles are high quality and work for a large % of horses and riders they will be well worth that price tag.

I agree 💯 that the whole point of business is to make a profit.

What I don't agree with is ridiculous price tags. £3k plus (and £5k in your case) is just downright extortionate.

My DH has been a Saddler his entire working life, and has made a good, honest living from his trade, without ripping people off. But, he has not, and never will, inflate his prices to these levels. He knows the cost of materials, and seeing saddles being sold at these prices really makes him angry.

My DH also has a long standing, highly respected, brand name; 50+ years in the saddlery trade, and his own business for 40 years. And most importantly, all of his saddles are 100% made in England.
