Im new here so hello. I wanted to see pictures of your connemaras that are fit if possible (although any pics are great) as I got my boy a few months ago and he had been out of work and was a bit round he is now in a better shape but i would like to see what I should be aiming for. Just to add he is now doing a variety of work and is much fitter but I feel he could still do with being a bit fitter and trimmer.

Yeah, he is a good horse bless him, I've found connemara's can be a little stubborn, but once you get a bond with them and understand each other, they will try their hardest in everything you ask of them, and are really honest horses :D

He had a slight bit of arthiritis so the muscles on his hind quarters were never that great as it took a lot to get him to use his back end properrly but he was very fit when these photos were taken :)
 
VM- yes we have already found the stubborn streak hmmmm but we do have a good bond already (I think helped by the fact he had little or no attention before I got him as he was turned away due to circumstances) and he already looks to me when he is scared or worried which is quite often unfortunatly as he is a bit of a wimp but he does try hard for me as often the things we do are new to him as he is quite green
kokopelli- he looks really sweet and I wouldnt have noticed the ears if you hadnt said I would have called them expressive not huge. It is nice to see what my boy could go on to do although it is a long way off at the moment

No problem, tbh Westie was never stubborn with me he was a very pleasurable little pony but when he first came over here from Ireland he was very nervous to say the least. However I had a connie before him who had to be ots because of his attitude, he too was from Ireland and responded very badly to the treatment there and started lashing out at people with the intent to hurt them. Iguess it depends which one you get :)

But I find they're easy to teach and they have an amazing jump!! The second pic of me and Westie is 1.40m!!
 
1m40 WOW!!!! we have only really reached about 2ft6 with the odd 2ft9 very occasionally just trying to build his confidence slowly as he tends to worry about things although he is more than capable of bigger just not yet and I dont want to rush him (need to get his flat work up to scratch first). He isnt that stubborn really its just occasionally like when loading on the way home :rolleyes: how aweful about the first connie mines not from ireland and has had a good past thankfully and have to agree about being easy to teach very clever little(ish) things
 
This is Rupert, my daughter's Connie hunting pony, he's 13.2hh. He's quite fit in these pics but he can drop off during hunting and has to be fed up. I don't like him much thinner than this and he tends to look out of proportion if thinner as he loses it off his back end but keeps the front.

Ive had my connemara gelding for 2 months and he's already pretty fit, have done xc schooling, un affiliated dressage and hacking/schooling to get to know each other. He's stubborn, but honest and willing as anything. He's got a great nature and is just a happy little chappy. He seems to survive on nothing but grass lol and is fairly hardy as expected. He has replaced a very special horse and there are aspects of his personality that bug me - he's very much a pony in attitude despite being 15.1hh where as my previous horse was just so polite and very much a horse!
Over all I do love him tho, he's full of fun and character and is quite a talented chap when you can tap into him! Would def buy another based on him :) wi add pics when on comp not phone!
 






This is my boy. He has a great temperament, he even does RDA when Im not riding him! You do have to keep ontop of him mind, he likes to think he knows best XD. You will have great fun with your connie though :D I love them!
 
This is my first time posting pics so i apologise in advance if they dont work or too large/ too small.

Anyway this is Berti he is 15hh, 10 yrs old and loves to jump. My daughter jumped him in ponies for a while upto 1.25m and now jumps him in seniors. Berti is always willing to please and always trys his best even when he struggles getting the distance in doubles (normally puts 2 in when should only be 1). He is just a lovely pony to have around;)

thanks every one its nice to have something to compare to as all the other horses on my yard that are in work are TB or warmblood types. He is looking better than I thought :D just a quick question can you feel their ribs?
angel bones- thanks for that I will have to make sure he dosent get out of proportion
elliepinza- yes he is great fun and also has a great temprement he has had my young cousins that have never been around horses riding him bareback up to the field :D

Thats my 15.1hh chap XC schooling - he's pretty fit at the moment, ridden 5-6 times a week for 1hr + and lunged 3 times a week for 15-20mins.

As I said he's great but stubborn! Fab nature but not a novice ride as has his moments :D
