Bob arrived about 3 or 4 weeks ago now, and since then gypsy has started chewing the fence over night :( I don't know if he's stressed because he may be jealous I've got a new one (I know it might sound sad but I think he is). Gypsy goes up the road in the day while bobby stays down the paddock on the grass and they're both in at night, with their stables where bob has a shelter behind the stable, and up to the end of the stable is hard standing for him. Gypsy has his own stable and the rest of the yard, they are separated by 2 sliding rails of wood, which gypsy is eating and showing bob what to do now :( he's only done it since we've had the new one, he also did it last year when we had one for the summer. I put solid hoof oil on it which seemed to do the trick but it's sticky and horrible and he started eating it again quite badly the past few nights.
He has his haynet doubled so it takes him longer to eat it and has a lick.

I feel so bad that he's stressed out and I don't know why :( :( any suggestions would be greatly received.

No, it's not jealousy. He just wants to be with the other horse and the wood is a barrier. Is he normally on his own? We have one that chews wood when he wants to get in with a mare that he really likes. He is in with the other boys but really wants to be in with her. He can't though because he kicked her badly some time ago and I can't risk it. It is a real pain because he is nibbling my fence posts down really badly. I bought a spray but it seems to wear off after a few hours. Can they not both be in the same area together?

that would be my guess too

I would guess its the seperation thing, could you try them in the same field seperated by some elec fencing and if they get on rotate the two fields with them together. Is there anyway they could be closer at nights ?
