New horse getting too hot??

I've recently just got a new mare, this is my first horse since I was 12!
After riding her for around an hour, nothing majorly hard, walking trot an canter. She is getting very hot an sweating on her neck in places?? can anybody explain this??

Iv not changed her feed, she's been out an not stuck in stable so I'm unsure what could be causing this?? Or is this normal an I'm over reacting?

It could be that she is growing her winter coat. It has been quite warm sun over the last two days too.

It could be that she is a naturally hot horse. My mare sweats like nothing I've ever seen. She can't tolerate any heating food, like sugarbeet or haylage. She is never cold, and will stand talking to someone on the top of a hill fully clipped without batting an eyelid, but is dripping in summer after light work even when eventing fit...

An hour in the school is pretty hard work, or were you hacking? Don't worry - just cool her down properly after work and/or wash off, and if it continues, consider getting her clipped.
 
I'm sure there will be lots of technical explanations, but I think some horses just sweat from excitement. A 30 year old horse my son rides in the riding school never sweats up in the arena, but gets all excited and sweats up alot when out on treks, he was always like this, just loved the open space and would sweat up even if you were just walking. I think It's a mental thing to be honest. Does your mare sweat in certain places or does it matter where she is ridden?? It could be just that she's unfit too. Sorry I couldnt be more help. Mine get mad excited! I ride crazies and they have been known to come out of a horse box after a 20 min drive dripping!!
 
My horse was sweating tonight just after a brisk walk down the bridleway. Its mild and they are growing winter coats. My boy is a warm horse anyway, everyone elses has rugs on but my horse is too warm yet for one. He will be clipped in the next week or so.
 
Mine was insanely sweaty after a 30 minute hack on Saturday. Virtually had to fully bath him on my return. Clipped him on sunday as a result. He is a very hot horse, and always has been - needs very little rugging in winter. Whereas Mum's horse (same age & breeding) struggles to break a sweat. I guess they are just all different!
 
As others have said, horses are busy growing thick winter coats now. Thick winter coats are brill for freezing, miserable winter weather. They are not so good for Indian Summers in October where the daytime temperature is equal to a glorious summer's day. Clip her and she'll be fine x
 
Thanks for the help! As i havent had long im hoping she is just a hot horse.

Will see how she gets on the rest of the week an if it carrys on I'll clip her, I was just worried because it seems to be her neck thats just getting hot and sweaty. I hope she's not in pain! Thanks again will let you know how she gets on.
 
As others have said, probably just needs clipping, mine is 31 and he gets excited and sweats, dependant on weather, I clipped him about 3 weeks ago because it was mild and he was sweating just going for a walk in the woods, its alot colder this week, he needs re clipping already, I usually do him about 4 times over the winter
