New horse going well - How far do you think he might go?

Couldn't watch the vid yesterday but just saw it now and thought I'd better comment in the spirit of un-cliquiness :D

Lovely, willing sort :) Hard to tell his scope as he just does what he needs to to clear what is in front of him, he's not the sort you go ""Oh, wow!" at, but he seems to be coping very easily with what you've asked and is enjoying himself :) One thing to watch is that you ride a really good turn before the fence, don't let him over bend his neck and fall out through the turn as then when he gets to the fence he isn't balanced over all four legs and isn't in the best position to throw a big jump - that happened at least once in the video. Sorry - hope you don't mind me saying :D

When we want to test scope at his sort of stage, we tend to build a grid, and put an oxer at the end, and just make it bigger and bigger and wider and wider - that way you can put a really big fence up without frightening them...

yeah I normally do a grid :) I just wanted to feel the ride to a bigger fence, if that makes sense :P

Yeah hes a ****** off my right leg so he will fall out on approach. At this stage I am just encouraging off my right leg but trying to keep him forwards when jumping. We are doing lots of flatwork to improve him and its slowly coming :) He is not as flashy as the two other horses I have had recently but he just keeps going. He is more reserved at home than out and about and hes been noticed at shows quite a few time for his backend!

I am hoping I can enjoy him and then make a decent profit to fund something to go further. He gets better each time I jump him so hopefully he will have a lot to give :) Ive not had him long enough to have made a full assessment/plan yet

It's impossible to say based on one big fence how far he will go. Plenty of horses can jump one big fence but can't jump a course of them. If he is to be a sales project the ln identify your target market and educate him accordingly

There are plenty more videos of him on my channel. Theres no point me jumping him a course this big at this stage, I just wanted to see how he rode to it, if he was careful and how he used himself.

Hes not a sales project as such, hes my personal horse to compete but I will never turn down a good offer and I remain realistic that if I want to work up the levels I will need a better horse at some point and a decent offer would make that possible.

I aim to get him jumping some fox DC's and see how it goes. Ive only had him 7 weeks though and hes been to his first 5 shows with me so no rush yet. I like him too much to hammer round

He looks like a lovely horse, and seems to have a level headed approach to his work, best of luck with him and I hope he helps you out on your way up the ladder :)
