This may be long sorry.
I have been given a 21 yr old tb as a happy hacker and she is brill to ride as long as we don't meet anything big. But I have had her 4ish weeks now and she is still squealing and lashing out with her front foot at the other 2 I have. She does it all the time people keep asking if we have an elephant as it is so deep and loud. In the stables she stresses and paws alot and squeals etc if her neightbour (field mate) goes near her stable. we have open fronted stables and have put mesh over her neighbours front to stop him annoying her but she only has to see him coming near the front and she is off. She doesn't eat much and am convinced her teeth need doing so the dentist is coming wednesday. Anyway today I rode her and turned her out, then worked my youngster and went to turn him out and didn't pay any attention to her and she came up the other side of him and did a squeal and lashed out with the front leg and caught me full force in the stomach. I was the other side of him and should have paid more attention but surely she still shouldn't be theis bad. Anyway I am convinced she needs something to help her settle/calm. I feed Fast fibre and mollasses free hifi with biotin and garlic powder in it. She isn't keen to eat it but as I say she is quidding badly which doesn't help. What can I give her that will curb her mareishness and calm her in the stable?
Any help gratefully recieved as I don't fancy a repeat of tiday I hurt all over.

nothing worse than a moody mare, is she only like this towards the gelding, then it would seem that she is one of the mareish ones so get her on to D&H moody mare asap, does work but only after 2 weeks then you have to use it continuously, but anything for peace and quiet.

Is she just taking a while to settle in her new home ? Maybe just giving her a routine to help her settle and a bit of time to establish herself with the others will all it takes.
If you want to give her a supplement, try magnesium oxide. Its been such an unusally wet summer that it may benefit her.

No shes like it with the mare to. I think i will get her onto the moody mare. All of them have mag licks in the stable already and I have some mag based calmer here left over from another horse so will stick that in to.
Thanks for the advice
