new horse - laminitis or sore from no front shoes

my super new horse lost a front shoe on his 2nd day, so farriar removed tother, and app made for full set fri am. v v lame and when led onto yard couldn't move. more comfi on rubber mat with deep bed - farriar says this means sore rather than laminitic. hes 16.2 tbxhab. any experiences?
 
If he has TB feet he may well be very sore without shoes. Mine won't walk without fronts.
His feet also get hot as well if he pulls off shoes.
Why do you think it is laminitis has he had it before?
I suspect your farrier is right. Some of the them will take a day or two to come sound as well if they have pulled a shoe.
Get them back on and fingers crossed he will be fine in a day or so.
 
Horses with laminitis adopt an instantly recognisable stance with their front legs pushed out in front of them, their weight thrown backwards and trying to stand on the heels of their front feet. Almost as if a mega strong wind had suddenly blown them backwards. Sounds as if your farrier is right but if you are in any doubt whatsoever, get the vet immediately as laminitis is a veterinary emergency and time is of the essence.
 
Like the others say, he is probably just sore; I had my ponies shoes taken off because he's now retired and he is still a little sore on hard ground and that was three weeks ago; But I know he will be fine in a couple of weeks as we've been through it a few times now!
 
went down crack of dawn, and still sore on hard ground but comfi in his stable. no lami stance - and his hooves are v flat. i lept to stress lami thoughts dramatically as my friends horse had it - not nice, and lovely lovely new horse - something will go wrong! drama queen - need more sleep! anyway, reassured that he is just v v sore from no shoes - farriar visiting tomorrow - they are always so busy!!!

Please have a look at my post just a bit above yours about sore feet......sounds like we may have a similar problem, If youu like I will update you on mine, but my horse does seem to have very flat feet and is also new!
When he went lame initially, I was convinced it was a suspensory ligiment by loads of people on my yard (even withno swelling!!) Not very helpful as a post but maybe a little comforting!

Dont rely on the classic laminetic stance to decide if your horse has laminitis - my mare had laminitis but only ever in one foot and never displayed the typical stance, my gelding had chronic (rather than acute) laminitis and this showed as virtualy undectectable from bruised soles eg, a pottery "footy" gait until the vet had invesigated further. I have never seen a horse with the laminetic stance that you see in vet books - but seen lots with laminitis. i think that typical stance must be seen with acute, sudden onset, or severe cases, but theres a lot of low grade laminitis that can present in other ways.

good luck - hopefully its just bruised soles but do bear in mind that trauma to the foot (eg. bruising, working without a shoe) can cause laminitis in itself...
 
What a stupid thing to have done - why didn't the farrier simply put another front shoe on??

You have to wonder sometimes at the sense of some people, really.
