New horse making me looking silly and making me doubt myself.

I think it was Carl Hester who said people buy a warmblood at 3, and it is nice and quiet and well handled, etc. and then they turn into Kevins at around 4/5, they are big and strong. I think for you, it is a case of hanging on in there. He sounds a bit shell shocked - big open space, new friends, spring grass. Wow. I wouldn't try riding him again for a bit until you think he is more used to his new living conditions.
 
My cornet gelding gets a bit opinionated if he's not quite getting enough turnout or he takes it into his head he's bored. He's just turned 5 and hit 17.3 and realised he has a flea riding him. I'm blaming spring lol
