As you can tell we aren't exasctly getting off the best start.
This morning the new one lost a shoe and I was planning to work him a little today, only walk possibly a tiny amount trot in a field just to get him used to the place and back into work.
Would this be ok until the farrier comes out? (yet to find out when)

Thanks

As long as he hasn't pulled off much foot & is sound & you are working on soft ground the whole time then I would still carry on - maybe stick just to walk though?

I was only planning on long reinging him not riding sorry forgot to add.
The ground is very soft at the moment, probably how he lost it running about in it this morning.

I would lightly school mine on the flat in the mengae if he had lost a shoe. I think its up to the individual, some do, some dont. I have even taken mine to a show with one front missing

We had a mare for sale at my yard and after someone left a deposit she lost a shoe. so we didn't have it replaced cos she was leaving anyway, just carried on exercising her in the menage. then they decided to have her vetted so we had her reshod.

anyway she had a five stage vetting and came up as stiff in her off hind leg, the one she lost a shoe on. she was a welsh cob with really good solid feet but since then i think working a bit 'wonky' must have a negative effect on their joints so i'd avoid it personally.
