Hi all. I am taking my daughters mare to a training clinic next month. I am hiring a 3.5 lorry / box to take them. I have traveled in one before but this box is different.
the box I am hiring loads on the drivers side and is rear facing. I was always taught to follow the rule of the horse being on the drivers side. Will this still apply?
meaning she loads and doesn’t go straight to the back, just stands on the drivers side? I have asked the man I’m hiring it from but he has not replied to me. Any help appreciated

I prefer rear facing because if you need to stop quickly they are landing on their bums not their face.

As for the weight, I believe it's to adapt to the camber of the road. The road is higher in the middle so the box will naturally want to lean to the pavement. The horse goes to the drivers side so not to add to the natural lean. The camber of most roads is hardly noticeable and power steering probably means you won't feel any difference. I'm not an expert, hopefully one will add more.

It is indeed because of the camber of the road that it is recommended that the horse, or the heaviest horse if there is more than one, goes behind the driver.

Round here many of the roads have a pronounced camber, so I stick with that advice.

Thank you. It’s just going to be my daughters mare. So I will travel him on the drivers side leaving the space empty behind the passenger side. Thank you again
