Hello, My new horsey passed his vetting today :D. He is a 6yr old 16.3 coloured british warmblood who has done BYEH last year. My plan with him is to do mainly aff showjumping with a bit of eventing on the side and the occasional dressage.

I was wondering what companies are the best for insuring competition horses? Years ago I had a pony insured by NFU but I don't know if there are any other companies you would recomend?

thankyou I will go and investigate their website :)

and he is, I feel so lucky that we spotted him as he is a quality horse for a bargin price!

When I work out how to put pictures up I will put some of him up :)

He sounds lovely - I've heard a lot of good things about Petplan, and when I was insuring my last horse was recommended NFU by quite a few people who were impressed by them.

KBIS are great. Reasonable premium and they have paid out twice for me over the years with no problems at all. I'd definately recommend them.

Thanks everyone :)

He is fabulous! I can't wait for him to arrive on Saturday, I'm so excited :D
I think a visit to the tack shop is necesarry in order for me to spoil new horsey :)

And I am so relieved that he passed, I was so nervous today until the vet rang and told me he had passed, he even commented on how nice he was!
And I only have 1 oicture of him at the mo but when he arrives on Sat I can tell I will probably take lots of pics so I will start a new thread when he comes :)

I am with Petplan, made my first claim in January for around 1k and they paid it out within 4 days, no questions asked!
Highly recommend :)

Congratulations :D very exciting.

I only have one horse insured, but as yet cannot fault Amtrust, and I have claimed twice with no problems, they are also very personable.

Congratulations on your new bit - how exciting, he sounds lovely. I've been with NUT for years although not sure if they are still taking on horse insurance? Heard people say they are expensive of late?

NFU seem to be very good, they have paid out on all my claims. They tried to exclude my horse for all three bones in all four feet after he had injections into his n/f coffin joint but the vet sorted it out in one phone call and the exclusion on the other three feet was taken off immediately. The best thing with NFU is they reward you for your loyalty by giving you a discout (something to do with not having shareholders so passing savings on to you). Its costing me £75 a month for £5K value and approx £1000 on tack with vets bills upto £5K and a horse trailer is included in this cost.

I would say that you insure your horse PRIOR to collecting him so that you are covered from the moment you take a hold of the lead rope and collect him as soon as you can after vetting.

Hope you have many happy years together x
